Requirements:

1 x p900
1 x Orange PAYG Sim

phone Orange PAYG Customer services say hi i want to get my handset unlcoked cos i am going to siberia

they will say er ok the it should be ok

if they say anything about the handset (which they wont!) say you bought it unconnected from CPW and they will then take the steps to unlcok your handset!

let us know when you suceed so you can thank me!

There are a couple of problems with this. If you have a P900, it will not be on PAYG and so PAYG helpline don't have an obligation to help. If u say u bought it unconnected, they wont believe you because all contract handsets have to be connected, and if you bought a generic one, it will be unlocked anyway.

Also, their systems can tell if a handset has been connected or not. I know this because when trying to connect a new sim to an old phone, it showed up as still being on an active account...so they can tell just from the IMEI if it's connected or not.

Generally the main flaw is that if you say u need ur P900 unlocked to go to siberia (or whatever), the PAYG helpdesk will most likely say "but the P900 isn't available on PAYG", and then the question arises: how did you get it? The unconnected story implies that it's sim-free and doesn't need unlocking.

I think in this case, honesty is the best policy (if slightly bent from the truth), and don't make up stuff about PAYG and all that gumph. Just ring 150 (contract CS) and tell them ur going away for a month to a country where there is no coverage (I think Hong-Kong is one of them) and u need to use a hong-kong sim in it. You'll get charged (as usual) but at least it saves any hassle.

I tried this today, and the Orange CS said that they sent an email requesting the unlock to the Technical team who came back and said that they can not unlock this as this is a "NEW" contract, they went on to say that if the contract had been at least a year they could do it. So I explained to her that the whole reason that I wanted the phone was because Orange market this phone to use anywhere in the world.

Irony,
Orange sell Triband phones, Orange coverage is not worldwide and not all carriers in other countries have contract/agreement to host Orange service. So if you go overseas to a country that does not host Orange network you’re f**ked.

Now Orange did say that if you want to lift the lock immediately then you will have to pay up the whole 12 months contract fee.

As I have said time and time again.....................Wankers.....

@Vermania,
Your way does make sense....as you are not in a contract.....which is the whole problem that Orange have.....

That's a bit sucky JJayMobile

and Vermania...where can you buy unconnected P900s?

Surely they're working on some sort of honour system?

"Here, we'll sell you this handset at the price it would be if we connected it, and we trust you that you'll actually subscribe to a contract"

Sounds a bit fishy to me :\

Bearing in mind the PAYG price was quoted at £469 if it was ever going to happen, and you can get them on contract for around £150 if you shop around, are you saying you could walk into a shop, ask for an unconnected handset at the reduced price, walk out and just put a PAYG sim in it?

If so, tell me where. Nice profits to be made!

And if you're implying that you pay full price for the phone, then what's the point anyway if it's locked to orange? Surely it would be better to just get a sim-free one?

Sound to me like someone at CPW is keeping the sims, & selling the Orange handset at a £115 profit. i havee NEVER heard of them selling Orange handsets offline like that.

@JJayMobile

You are soo right! what is the point of a tri-band phone when you cannot use it with a foreign providor?

I know these guys have got to get their money's worth from you to pay for the phone - as a contract subsidises the cost of the handset, but still locking the phone just isn't the way to do it!

I am going to have the same problem when mine arrives, i still want to use my other sim to text, also not everyone will have my new orange number - so basically I'm gonna be screwed, luckily it looks as though its not going to be many more days until people can unlock it!

Just got an email from Mobilefun saying that theres a problem with the P900 unlocking they were offering.

Appears to effect some P900 and T610's. Theres suppoed to be a new software available soon to work around the problem

Fingers crossed it wont take too long!
