Samsung and Sony have agreed to share manufacturing of memory sticks(inc duo/duo pro),sony is not worried about the 'competition' when it comes to this media.
There is not a 256MB MS due, there is already a Pro duo of this size available, releasing a 256clasic duo to join a 256 Duo pro is too confusing for most consumers(I sell 'em ,believe me...),
...a card larger than 128Mb will only appear as a select-I doubt it-x2 128s on a single duo..)
sorry guys..
Sorry, but that is rubbish. The 256mb duo non-pro will be released. Whether it is or isn't 'too confusing for most consumers' is irrelevant. By releasing a 256mb duo non-pro, SE will greatly increase their MemoryStick sales, and also make happy a great deal of consumers who currently want larger storage capacity (mainly Px00 users). SE are not going to not release a product just because they fear that some customers might get confused. That's ridiculous.
There is NO and NEVER will be a 256mb Duo non Pro...
They just CAN'T make it, it's conceptual problem and the Duo technology is maximum up to 128mb ot it has to be a PRO !
Keep on dreaming and whinning, but 128 still always will be the maximum a P8/900 will support.

The only thing that may give us more memory is the select function:
Q4. Who will be the users of the Memory Stick media with Memory Select Function?
A4. Owners of all current Memory Stick compatible devices who are looking for a higher capacity solution will find this media especially convenient. Memory Stick users who have large amounts of digital data, including image and PC files, will also appreciate this media's capability to facilitate categorization according to data types and applications. A total of 512MB (128MB x 4) is now under development.
Whether they develop it into a duo format as well depends, even so with prices of the 128MB at £44 its looking much more attractive that its initial price tags.
Sony also state:
Q10. Can Memory Stick PRO media compatibility be implemented through a firmware or software upgrade?
A10. Technically, firmware/software upgrades are possible to create Memory Stick PRO format compatibility in some product categories.
I would love to see the firmware/software issue addressed or even pay a small amount so i could store everything i want. Doubt it will happen but i will remain forever optimisitc.
I have also found this page which shows how we could work a way of using these windows based drivers on the phone and install it in a sis file or something like that:

The P800 is a good(ok,great) mobile,the p900 is even better...
128Mb is the cap for expandable memory,we should all move on-lets not get too worked up about larger cards for a phone that is showing its age in many ways..Duos are small, carry 10(the volume of say, a few credit cards..)-if you just have to have 1GB to get you to work each morning...
Better phones are in development, bigger internal memorys are already showing up in PDA/mobiles every month..why 'flog a dead horse..?'(to use a Australian euphemism...)
The P900 doesnt support Duo pro's,yes this seems like a big mistake on Se's part, and it is upsetting many people, but lets face it,this is a slight 'evolution' of a mobile we all love...there are better, more 'revolutionary' products in the pipeline-lets wait a little longer-we may not need to carry DVD quality movies on a peice of plastic the size of my thumbnail, but we all know it would be cool if we could-but not this year, and not with a telephone developed a few years ago, when 128MB was considered enough for the users this hardware was developed for.

I believe those 256mb Duos are the Duo selects that has two separate 128mb memory banks.. However, one will have to physically switch from one bank into another by removing the card out of the phone prior to doing so... Bank access will not be accessible through software or the OS as partitioned drives are on a PC... I find this worthless as one might as well just purchase 2 separate 128mb sticks..
