Okay, then I was on the right path.

This is with T-Mobile USA:

I use my P900 to surf the web, whether it is WAP pages, light HTML, or regular HTML, and I pay $4.99 for unlimited data.

However, if you want POP mail access with T-Mobile you have to get the plan that is $9.99/month and that includes unlimited browsing PLUS access to POP mail.

Wow, very nice deal, too bad they don't have it here at California. Cingular jacks up the price like crazy. It's amazing how they would charge $74 dollars for unlimited data usage!! But anyways, I'm happy with this dialup thing i'm using for free

For some people, they can use this method to get Free Internet on P900 / P800 (Depends on your Service Provider), OK guys, here it is:

First contact Cingular (or your phone service provider) and tell them that your are trying to send FAX with your laptop through your cellphone. They will then enable CSD on your line (data-enable). This is free for some service provider, but in my case, to enable CSD for Cingular @ California is $3.99 a month, Which is still super cheap, consider that I will be able to use all the internet I want with this method.

Then signed up for free dialup internet service at http://access-4-free.com they give you 10 hours of free internet every month. And their service require no additional software, thus, works with P900 / P800 (If you go past 10 hours, it's $1 per hour and max at $10 dollars, once you reach $10, they stop charging you, and you can use all the internet you want, personally 10 free hours is plenty enough for me!!)

Now with your P900 / P800 built-in dial up service. Control Panel=>Connections=>Internet Accounts. Add "NEW" and select "Dial-up" Then just simply enter the account information you got from http://access-4-free.com when you signed up (login, password, access phone number). You don't need to change anything in the "Advance" tab.

!!! IMPORTANT !!!!
When you pick your Access Number from the Access Number list, YOU MUST PICK THE NUMBER WITH "v90", and NOT "v92/v90". Your phone will only work with the "v90" ones, I've tried it, none of the "v92/v90" numbers work.

Now you're ready to enjoy Free Internet on your phone!! You could use Opera browser to surf the internet, send/receive emails, chat on IRC via Java based client, access FTP (Java based client), even Instant Messengers (MSN, AIM, Yahoo, ICQ,..etc.) All the bandwidth you can use, without charge! (besides airtime, which I have unlimited nights and weekends)

If your service provider would turn on your CSD for free and you use less then 10 hours of internet every month, then you'd basically get FREE INTERNET SERVICE on your Phone!!!

Sounds good, but you are actually using your peak or off peak minutes to browse...or not...am I missing something?

@UK Users

Anyone else getting seriously P*SSED OFF with the way we are expected to pay through the nose for EVERY BYTE we use?

There are people paying $5 (£2.86) for unlimited data in countries with less esablished mobile operators than we have in the UK.

This is beyond a joke!

@TooMuch2AM

I couldn't agree more.

We have always paid through the nose for everything in the UK. Its absolutely rediculous when you consider that we are the 4th richest country in the world and yet we are charged and taxed to the hilt for goods and services. If one were to group all the taxes we pay together i.e. income tax, national insurance, VAT, stamp duty, inheritance tax, road tax, council tax, alcohol duty, cigarette duty, fuel duty, savings tax, land tax, capitail gains tax, business tax, corporation tax, etc then one would find that we pay the most tax of any first world country.
Added to these taxes is the fact that our goods and services tend to be amongst the most expensive anywhere in the world. UK consumers never put up much of a fight when it comes to these matters, but its high time we did so. Oftel are apparently going to be forcing the mobile networks to reduce charges (perhaps they have already done it and I haven't heard about it), which is a step in the right direction.

Yes, it sure is expensive for you Britts. I feel for you. Don't know why there isn't more competition among European providers. There must be some price fixing going on. Why hasn't there been anyone offering flat rates yet? They are all talking about it but no action!!!

Edit: I just realized why....it's because the damn European governments totally bankrupted the telecom providers when they sold the 3G bands to the highest bidders. They thought they could make a quick buck but now it's coming back and biting them in the arse.

Most other places within the Union are cheaper than Britain, though Scandinavia seems to be rather pricey and Ireland too. I was in a pub in Dublin not long ago and it was over £4 for a pint of Guinness! Unbelievable!
Competition does exist in Britain between the mobile operators, but only within their own defined spheres. For example, they will compete over giving customers text bundles or free minutes, but none of them will actually take a step further and do anything radical. The level of competition is therefore quite small, it exists, but it is small.
The problem with Europe in comparison to America is that our mobile technology is much more advanced. I have a friend in Washington D.C. who tells me that people are still buying huge clamshell phones with extendable aerials and monochromatic screens! America therefore has a huge potential for growth, which means lots of customers up for grabs, so the networks have to be competitive. In Europe where almost everyone over five and under 100 has a mobile phone there is almost no room for growth. The networks here don't compete so much, because there isn't an awful lot to compete about. I would imagine that they would be ecstatic to increase their market share, but probably settle for just holding onto what they already have. Perhaps if 3G takes off then there will be another great period of growth as people buy 3G handsets, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

You can get free web and email access by signing up with an ISP who offers a non-0845 (chargeable) number.

I use Claranet who have a 0207 number then use my 200 free Vodafone minutes a month to connect to that. Free internet & email!

Helen.

P.S. Notice that bluejacking got a full page spread in the London Metro newspaper this morning )

Yes, I have unlimited nights & weekend (unlimited off peak) minutes, and that's what I'd be using to connect to internet. And by using this method, I basically get the internet for free on my phone.
