If you want to hear the difference between mp3 and amr quality, download the above programs and test it out on a couple of mp3s on your computer first. You'll see the quality decreases alot and there's alot of noise in the amr track. Using the MIKSOFT converter on MR = 122 i got the best amr quality (the t230 records at a lower quality so even though recording ringtones is possible, they dont sound that great esp at high volumes). I havnt downloaded any amr from computer to phone yet so i dont know if it works yet but if u want to use amr as ringtones i think ud only get decent quality this way.
Doing the conversion is very quick and easy once you know how. If u can get a decent quality amr onto the phone itll make an okish alternative to mp3...just dont expect anything near the same quality.
lol. At the moment i have a recording of Zombie by the Cranberries set as my ringtone. U can recognise the song but its v noisy and badly distorted. Im gonna see how many unsuspecting people i can annoy with it before changing it.

Ok, Possibly I am wrong, but I think - THINK - you can set .amr files as ringtones.
Why do I think this? Try this at home folks:
1. Go to MENU
2. Go to Pictures&Sounds
3. Go to Record Sound (#8)
4. Talk into the microphone
5. Finish recording by pushing "Yes".
6. Tap "No" repeatedly to go back to the main screen
7. Go to MENU (again)
8. Go to Settings
9. Go to Sounds & Alerts (#1)
10. Go to Ringtones (#4)
11. Choose Line 1
12. OMG look at that - you can set your recording as a ringtone. I can tell ou 100% that this is NOT stored as a .mid file
