Yes, there are lots of good and great books. I read the artemis fowl series a couple of years ago. I liked them. Fun reading
Then I have many of Dick Francis books. He was a champion jockey and now writes books. They are not always great but are quite relaxing if you don't want to put too much pressure on your mind The genre is thriller and they are almost always about horses and crooks to some extent.

I come to think of something, when we tip about books write the genre of the book so everybody knows it. I mean it dosen't say much just to say he or she is a good author.

@vlamm: the fifth hitch-hiker book is "Mostly Harmless". it was written much later than the others, and is IMO the weakest of them (which is to say it is merely very good compared with excellent). it does, however, tie up a few loose ends.

at the moment i am re-reading Domes of Fire, the first book in The Tamuli trilogy by David Eddings. befpre that it was, naturally enough, The Elenium trilogy which preceeds it.

the last "new" book i read was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

after i finish The Tamuli i think i'll read I Will Repay by Baroness Orcy, which by sheer chance i happened to find in a second-hand bookstore.

I've just read another book by Crichton, The Andromeda Strain. I was very lucky when I found out that it was about biological viruses, I didn't know that when I bought it.
I think I'm gonna buy a new one by him today...

I enjoy Kurt Vonnegut's early work, all of Tolkien, Orwell, some Crichton. Others, but it's early.
