It sometimes pays to take a phone apart and give it a good clean. I've bought a few phones recently as 'faulty', but once I've taken them apart, given them a good clear out of any dust, hair, and sticky substances off keypad membranes, they've come up a treat and worked perfectly!
As long as you know what your'e doing... The sledgehammer approach by the way, is known as the 'appliance of science' to a particular problem. You'd be surprised how often a bit of brute force and ignorance works!

I use a cloth to clean the fingerprints and fat, compressed air or my own CO2 for the dust.

i use bluetack to remove dust from hard to reach areas, it works great
using a small screwdriver is good but can cause scratches
i am looking to buy a faulty phone on ebay to do it up too, but have not seen one cheap enough reallu
i fint the ones that are clearly blacklisted funny.
I AM NOT SURE WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PHONEsubtle
THIS PHONE WILL NOT WORK IN THE UK, HOWEVER IT IS A GREAT MOBILE TO TAKE ABROAD
not so subtle!

Used a plastic protection case ("foneskin") for my 68 until recently, but stopped using it because it adds up quite some bulk. Have quite small pockets in my new pair of jeans, heh
Just handle it like most consumer electronics. I.e. that is, don't think about how you handle it, just don't be careless on purpose. Heavy rain showers can make your phone feel bad too so I woulnd't be too happy to speak into it during thunderstorms (unless it's an R310). Very light rain is often OK though
