you are right. i just got my bill and i was charged 0.15 for each international SMS. i have been sending international SMS forever with my $2.99 300 SMS plan.
i think T-Mobile has gotten way greedy about the new charge. they told me 'well, incoming internationally SMS is free and it comes out from your 300 SMS budget' i replied 'it would be quite rude not to reply to a SMS, wouldn't it'.
i wish t-mobile would provide the grand-father plan whereby people who signed up for the SMS plans, prior they decided to charge for internationl SMS, can use it for FREE.
i jsut hate it when any company starting to get greedy and charge for every little thing.

I know you can add a phone number to AIM and sent any amount of texts to it, but I haven't tried it with an international number. Might be worth a try.

in the list setup menu on my version of AIM for PC there is an option to add mobile next to the add buddy icon. May not be there on your version for Mac.

I just got off the phone with T-mobile about this and unfortunately, they can do it, according to Section 4 of their Terms and Conditions. However, if you're on contract and you want to get out of your contract, you have 14 days to do so without paying the cancellation fee because of this increase, based on those same T&C:
Changes to the Agreement or Charges. We may change or increase the charges for Service, Other Services, or any other charges at any time. However, if we: (a) increase the charges for a Service and you would be charged a cancellation or other fee to cancel that Service, or (b) we modify a material term of our Agreement with you and the modification would be materially adverse to you, we will notify you of the increase or modification (as provided in Sec. 22) and you can cancel the affected Service without paying the cancellation or other fee (which is your only remedy) by following the cancellation instructions in the notice. If you do not cancel the Service by following the instructions in the notice, then you agree to the increase or modification, even if you paid for Service in advance. If the notice does not say how long you have to cancel, then it is within 14 days after the date of the notice. If we increase charges for Service or Other Services to which no cancellation or other fee to cancel service applies (e.g., use of directory assistance), we will notify you of the increase, but you will still be responsible for any cancellation fee applicable to any Services you may have if you cancel Service.
Still, it's a p***k move. I'll reply with how this turns out. If there were another provider with good service and cheap pay as you go, I'd switch. But I have to start worrying about 850MHz band phones if I do. Damn AT&T and Cingular.

i had a one year contract with 6 more months to go. damn those greedy carriers.

you are correct in that when you get one from oversea, it goes against your SMS bucket. unfortunately, when you get one you feel obligated to reply or your friends oversea would be wondering if you get the SMS.
i was hoping there are some cool sites that allow you to send SMS on a limited daily basis (like 10 FREE sms daily).
i am already paying t-mobile $2.99/month and i just refuse to pay them for sending int'l SMS
