@lembo 100% agree
Have to admit this is exactly what I do (OK I work slightly longer hours ) as it looks cool on my desk next to my docked VAIO. I have only had a problem one weekend when I left SMAN as the active application and the battery went down to about 8%

Mine is plugged in every night & unplugged in morning so anything from 6 hour to 10 hour on power. Phone could be at 80% or down at 25% (lowest I think its ever gone).

Never had a problem with my P800/P900/iPAQ's etc. which all have Lithium Ion.

Only advice I ever heard regarding Lithium Ion battery is don't over charge (modern chargers prevent overcharging) and they don't like being fully discharged.

I have read a lot about batteries as I commute to work on my electrically powered Marin Bicycle with Heinzmann motor kit. It uses NiCads still because for heavy drain use they like to be "Hammered" i.e Fully charged then fully discharged (one chap I know has had over 2000 charges out of his NiCads which must be a record!!).

Just my opinion

@methylated_spirit,

Ever hear of "trickle charge"? This is what is supplied to the battery when it reaches its max charge state. Your theories on battery charging are more confusing than correct. Masseur was 100% correct in his initial statement about battery functionality.

This goes for any rechargeble battery i have ever had you have to fully charge them the first day u get it then fully use the battery life so that it could have more life time. And you should not over charge any of your battery's no matter what anybody say's its going to drain the life span of it.

It's like an urban myth ...

Different batteries, different rules.
Old Ni-Cad style rechargeable batteries used to suffer from losing life when recharged from half full, ofr not getting a full charge on the first go. Bit like a hard disc gets fragmented over time.
But the new style lithium batters don't suffer from this, and the charger stops charging once they are full.

There does seem to be some misunderstanding over this issue, as far as I was aware the newer batteries don't have the same limitations of the older ones.

and now we seem to be in a position that so many battery threads get to where there is no one here who really is a battery specialist and give exact answers but everyone has a guess.

personally I think with the reducing price of batteries together with how long most people keep their phones these days anyway (especially esato members ), battery longevity is an overrated issue

@masseur

That's a good point you make about the length of time people keep their phones. There are more than a few people who don't keep their phone for the period of their contract, so talking about battery life wearing down over a period of years is perhaps a little academic.
