well, there was this technology that I haven't heard anything from for years. It was 'holographic' storage.
Basically it was a 3D optical storge.
It was pretty star-trekkie/superman technology... the storage device was a glass/crystal cube. A cubic inch could hold something like 1 terrabyte or something.
Yeah this was the way to go, I read quite a bit about it, the media is amazing on how much they could fit on something the size of a grain of rice. HOWEVER the interface to write and read data was HUGE! Massive. It was something like here is a grain of rice with 1000'sgig but that oven over there was needed to read or write to it, so it didnt realy take off. I think also something about cooling it was required, had to be a certain temp......cant remember it was that long ago!

How about using an IBM Microdrive, like the Muvo 2 MP3 Player does, that stores 4GB and uses hardly any more battery than a compact flash card, and it takes up the same amount of space.

here's an idea...
expandable memory slots?
you know how we can get dual sim adaptors for phones? maybe it might be possible to do the same thing for the memory cards?
but then again... swapping memory cards on the PX00 aint that difficult anyway!!

So if a fuel cell was incorporated to power a HDD, that would give us all an excuse....
'Just off to the pub, love, got to give the fuel cell a snifter.....'

Just now samsung have released a mobile phone with a hdd, 1.5 G's
quote: "The SPH-V5400 is a clam-shell type phone and the hard drive can store 1.5GB, the company said. The storage space can be used for several types of media including images photographed with the built-in, megapixel digital camera or MP3s. It also has a built-in FM transmitter so music can be played through a nearby radio.
Other functions include TV output, dual speakers, 64-tone polyphonic ringer and dual LCD panels. The main screen is a TFT screen - 240 pixel by 320 pixel - and the sub screen is an OLED - 128 pixel by 128 pixel. The phone will go on sale in South Korea before the end of September, for around $800."
