I think the best phone signal is the K700.. Believe me I have tried them all from the T68, T610, K700, S700, and P900..

But isn't the signal strenght something that is managed by the operator, that sends a 'command' to the phone telling it how strong it should ray?

Yep... K700i has outstanding RF performance... definately the best to date. Yeah was abit dissapointed with SE T610 but other than that it was a great phone especially battery life.

but the diffrence is not huge.
But I have to say that I have had more signalbars shown
on a Nokia and not being able to hold the call where I had worse signal showned on the
phone and been able to speak w/o a problem.

I have had T68i since spring 2002. Before that I had long time T18s, T10s and GA 628 (with quite a long external antennas as you probably remember).
Short conclusion: T68i perform the best speech quality. I mean, even the reception signal is weak, I hear the other side (calling person) quite well. The speech is very seldom fragmentary.
I can make a call even there is 0-1 signal strength symbol on display. Once in the extreme conditions (big old stone castle) the signal strength was 0, only the green LED was blinking and the network name was still on display. Then I received a call. I couldn't hear the caller, but she heard me well.
(Out of topic: the T68i has still the best mobile phone battery ever manufactured. Or to put in the other way: T68i is able to use the power the battery most effeciantely)

I was amazed, when i saw first the sticker aerial of t68, looked so weird for me. However i miss the /// aerials, next to their real function it fitted the fones design aswell.

You can actually hear it if you call someone close to your PC speakers (or other bad speakers
) . From the beginning the noise that you can hear in the speakers are much stronger than after a while when the base station has requested the mobile phone to decrease its transmit power.
I don't know if the base station can control its sending power in the same way. Does anyone know?
