i did a little test between a nokia 6600 and a t68i and t610(only se phones i have so only ones i could test). i agree about the signal bar as this is nothing more than a guide as to wether a call can be made or not to me.
i took the phones to my local pub where my network orange uk is hard to get inside the lounge.
all phones showed a signal nokia showed 4 bars both se s 1 bar (as i said earlier i dont take much notice of this) so i decided to try to make calls as this is the important thing and also send texts.
the nokia dailed and held the call no problem it also send and delivered a text straight away.
the 2 se s performed really similarly both struggled to make a call and it took a couple of attempts to get them to dail, the t68 dropped the call when it did connect and the t610 connected but the person on the other end compalined they couldnt hear me.both tried to send texts which they did on a second attempt however both took over half hour to deliver (maybe network )
not the most scientific of test but does seem to show that nokia rf is better on older se.
just need to borrow a friend k700 and do the test with this phone as this is supposed to be se s best rf to date, so i expect totaly different results

On my t68 & t300 I got a lot of people complaining that they couldnt get me on the phone, no matter how many times they tried, so I did a test with a t610 and tried to call my t300 which was in my jeans pocket. I couldnt get it to ring!!! so i did the opposite with the phones, (ie calling the t610) and that went through on all tries!!!

I think we see a kind of consenous here regarding SE low reception quality on phones.
The simple test that I did was 2 phones - SE T630 and Nokia 3100.
My netowrk is T-Mobile which most of us know generally has poorer signal/reception then the likes of O2, Vodaphone.
One the T630, the reception keeps on fluctuating, its going up and then goes right down every time I move the phone and sometimes I get poor quality reception.
On Nokia 3100, I get full reception and bars remain stable, and nice clear reception all the time. call quality also better then T630.
In both tests, it was done in the same place, i.e. at home.

I decided to move on to another manufacturer after being loyal to SE for 3 years due to poor RF.
All the SE phones I've used have always developed Reception related problems.
1- the first was a t300 which started loosing signal from full to zero bar in full signal areas after 5 months. I thought this was a network problem but later realized the phone was responsible/faulty.
2-the second was a t610 which also had the same problem as t300.
3-the third and last was a p800 which started dropping only outgoing calls after being used for 6 months. I thought this was a network problem but later realized it was the phone after trying different phones with the same SIM.
I've since deserted SE due to RF problem and now use a Siemens S55 which I'm very pleased with.

I changed back to Nokia recently and now have no problems with reception but i do also have Z1010 which I will keep because I am on 3 netowrk.
I will still stay with SE but I do have other phones too.

I know someone who has had a raw deal with reception on all 3 SE phones he ever used. He was a SE die-hard, but now he uses another brand as his primary phone.

im not sure what this discussion is actually about. its a well known fact that SE phones have terrible reception up to the k700. if its fixed in the k700 then there is no discussion to be had until they release new phones to see whether its permanently fixed or not. I dont know about the S700 but if thats also fixed then maybe they sorted it.
Either way theres no point talking about the past, its a known fact they are bad (and im sure its been covered many many times here). Theres also no point speculating on the future, when a few new SE phones have come out (since the k700) then we will know. until then the facts are: everything before the k700 has bad reception, and the k700 is pretty good.

My bro has been using the k700i for some time & i must confess, it's quite good in the RF department.
The RF on k700 is an improvement but I guess I'll wait till I see newer models and will only consider returning to SE when I'm more than convinced that they've conquered their RF BUGS!!

My S700i has the worst reception of any phone I've used for quite a while which is probably the only thing I dont like about it.
