I guess its a matter of taste. Symbian is very fast on e.g. 7650,..it works very well. Its built for "phone-use".
7650 is using Symbian V6.1
P-800 is using the newer platform V7.

These devices run totally different variations of Symbian platform. 7650 uses Pearl and P-800 Quartz (UIQ).

Symbian's SDK (developers-kit) is very expensive ! Thats a thumbs down

Nokia gives it SDK for Series 60 devices for free...

SE will be giving the SDK for the P800 for free too once the P800 is out on the market. The current SDK is for beta-testers and commercial app development. Free/shareware programs will and can be developed with the free SDK soon.

Pearl and Quartz are just the names of the GUI... The P800 is using a newer OS than the 7650. BTW, the name Quartz has been dropped. UIQ is the name of the GUI used on the P800, NOT the OS

Like I said, a different variation of Symbian platform. UIQ is for pen-based devices and Pearl is for devices with a keypad input. Also Pearl is designed for 1/8 VGA screen size and UIQ for 1/4 VGA screen size.
