i purchased a t68i from rogers last week. here's what i've found so far:
the WAP profiles are locked. this means that there are already 5 WAP profiles, all named Rogers. you cannot add new profiles, you cannot delete the present ones, and you cannot edit them either. you also cannot see any of the settings.
out of these profiles, the first one is completely dead. if you try and access your home page, you get a "GPRS failed" message. if you select the second however, you can access the Rogers WAP homepage and other sites too.. (i've been to wap.esato.com). i havent subscribed to any of the data or wap packages, so i'll let you know at the end of the month how exactly they bill me.
you can only access wap sites and not html sites.
pop mail does not work. at all.
the network lock (NCK) is active. all of the other functions are unlocked. you have 5 guesses for the NCK.
now i know why the phone cost me only 335 and not 800 (unlocked network and menus). well at least its colorfull.
i'm thinking of unlocking my phone, and also flashing it to enable all the menu's, especially the WAP profiles.

Hey theEND,
why do you wnat to unlock your phone?? do you want to change carriers?? i don't see why you would want to spend the money if everything already works. Email doesn 't work yet I know ... but it doesn't work with my unlocked either... and i'v ebeen talkibg to those bones heads at rogers for a month on and off now.
just curious,

well if you wish to unlock your phone, simply go to the Pacific mall and you can have it unlock 10 mints very cheap to, but if you ask rogers to do that for you they will charge you $ 200 CDN. by doing that you can have a lot of fun with the phone and you actully can add or delet whatever you want...!

good question dragoneye.
i was under the impression that unlocked phones would actually work when it came to wap and email. but i've been reading posts all over and i guess everyone's having the same problems with rogers.
i did read somewhere in the SE manual that you can configure a profile to access WAP through GSM instead of GPRS. has anyone tried this? my impression was that this would work like a dial-up connection where you have all your ISP's info (dial-up number, username, password etc) in the settings and then the phone uses that to get online.
i would have tried that with my phone but as i was saying, all the WAP menus are blocked and i cant change/edit/create/delete any of the WAP profiles.
(b.t.w. i got my first bill this week and i got charged 3 bucks for just one visit to wap.esato.com !! i'm using wap less on my t68i than i used on my 3 year old PCS phone)

I have been following this thread with interest, as I also have Rogers ATT with T68i and am in Western Canada.
Even the T68i manual book refers to "WAP settings" (navigate to) with respect to modifying/adding a WAP profile; which I don't have. I have "Web settings" but not WAP settings.
Does anyone know for sure if this lack of ability to alter WAP settings is a Rogers network issue, a locking issue, or even a firmware issue (I'm at R3A023; came with the phone 1 month ago.) ?
Of course there are other ways to skin the cat. Email gateway via SMS, GSM dial to ISP / Palm, ...
It would just be nice to have the convenience of WAP for email. Without having it, mind you, I can't determine if that access would be cheaper than simple dial-up or not. Anyway...
I'd like to hit joystick, 2, 4, 2 and retrieve my secure POP3 mail from any particular Internet mail server, that's all.
Thanks.

Hi, all. I recently bought a TREO 270 from Rogers and bought a $5 wireless internet plan that included 150 kb plys 4 cents/kb after that. They sold this to me over the phone when I bought the device. 150 kb is nothing, but since I'll hardly use the browser on the TREO I thought I'd prefer this, then "pay-as-you-go" for anything more than 150 kb.
Now Rogers is telling me they sold me the wrong service, and want me to pay the $30 (see the post above). They admit they sold me the wrong package, but won't do anything about it. All told, instead of paying $40/month they want me to pay $69!!!!! And the customer service has been crap - they started yelling at me last time I called them.
So I'm wondering, does anyone have a suggestion for how to set up a connection to a dial-up provider to use the browser on the TREO 270? Rogers says I can't do it, but I really don't beleive anything they say anymore....Any ideas from anyone on how I can get my browser to work?
Thanks so much...
