might be interesting to have the device vibrate or beep if you're about to move out of range or lose signal for some reason.

Yes, just some app which would show the signal and when we are not watching the app... then It would beep and vibrate....
(It would be better to heve both, because I think I wouldn´t watching the app whole time - when Im playing full screen games etc.)

maybe we should suggest this ASAP to developers such as ajack and droll before some software company charges us 20 bucks for such an app...

just been reading about a bluetooth positioning system that was tested in a house.
it used several blutooth recievers around the perimiter to work out the location of the main device!!
Yes sman v2 with bt signal strength.....

@Gardar: I dont know if the XP obex program have a signal metter. In Linux when i click in the bluetooth icon, it shows me the active connections, the details (address, name) and a bar showing the signal strength.
@masseur: I've got an HP iPAQ Pocket PC, and while a file transfer is active i can see the same bar with the signal strength measured in dB. The problem is that i dont remember where it was (broken screen, RIP). But im sure its possible.
Its interesting cause when watching the signal strength, if you put your phone in your pocket or cover the BT antenna, you can see the strength go down, and then it goes up again and gets stable when the devices readjust the strength.
@batesle/@calsb3rg: I think that calculating the distance between two devices is not a matter of the time it takes for the signal to reach each other (compare the time that it takes for the light to travel 5 and 10 metters). that is way to fast to be calculated by a phone/pc (with other processes running and making delays in the ping response). Calculating the distance based on the signal strength of both devices sounds much more logic for me, but then we find ourselves in the same situation as with positioning over GSM signal strength and triangulation: buildings affect the signal, so the device gets confused. same thing with bluetooth, ok, there may not be any problem if you are standing in front of the other guy, but then whats the point of measuring the distance? as soon as something gets between both devices (hand, pocket, person....) you'll get erroneous measurements.
ok, i think i went off topic a little bit, and im giving too much importance to this
remember that im only giving my opinnion here. i may be easily wrong

although I have had most top of range iPAQs since they started, the only bluetooth ones I have had are the 3870, 4150 and now 4700 but I have never seen this feature so you certainly have me intrigued
