Most common MMS limit is 100k. But it can be both higher and lower depending on phone and operator. The limit may also exist when sending MMS between operators. I know for instance that back in 2003 MMS size was limited to 50K when sending between Comviq and TeliaSonera, while within same network the MMS limit was higher.

For S700, the white paper says that MMS limit is possible to customize. If your SW is Comviq branded, they may have added that limit them self in latest S700 FW or you may perhaps find a way to change it in some service menu.

Generally speaking, MMS is for short messages (typically around 100K) and hence not a replacement for e-mail.

I never have been able to send larger themes on T610, Mot V525, or K700i. That may be a voda thing in my case (all those phones had voda branding).

I see your problem Mrb 18. My impression of the S700, nice phone that it is, is that it's not as well thought out as the K700's. I get the impression that they may have compromised in certain areas to get the phone running on a standard os (as opposed to symbian), which may just be that in the development some "side" issues, like theme sending on mms, may not have got as much attention as they should have.

As my S700 never has been branded and non of my prior SE either, your speculation that the os just cant't take any more features so to say might be true, otherwise i cant se any reason for making a newer modell worse than the older ones!

It's just something I've noticed with niche phones like the s700, they don't always have some of the basic abilities generic handsets have - I think they make some development decisions and go "well the market segment for this phone won't care about sending themes by mms". And they have may have based that on something as simple (yet wrong) as defining themes as a youth orientated service, whereas the S700 is aimed at more mature buyers?

Just a thought, and it could be something completely different, but the point being they didn't worry too much about themes and mms functionality because of the percieved market for the phone.

Or maybe they just screwed up!

@JN

I really like my phone, a lot more than the K700 and P900 that i have used before and at the same time as my S700, but when a company like SE is making a newer model worse in terms of easy usability it really pisses me off, but that said i coulden't think of any other phone on the market today that i would rather have!!

The 100kb limitation must be a operator limitation. Like with comviq that I have .. I get a msg that mms over 40kB is not guaranteed to get thru.
Also both your problems are sw problems.

1. You can change the MMS setting under : Messaging, Settings, Picture Message, Creation Mode.
Change it to 'Unlimited' if you want but 'Alert' is the best setting as it limits MMS to 100kb which is the maximum allowed by Operators.
If you set to 'Unlimited' and send your large themes, then chances are the receiver won't get it anyway because of your Operator.

2. S700i used to be able to play AMR recordings as ringtones but with the update to R3K004, it has been removed, perhaps to stop branded phones being used to 'record' the song and apply as ringtone and get around the limitation.

3. Wav files on a mobile phone are a waste of time - hence the reason SE removed it.
