@Scotsboy,

Is time travel possible?

@gbrooks3

We're jumping around a bit here!

In theory and practice yes, we are travelling in time as we speak, forwards in time that is. Presumably you mean travelling forwards in time at an accelerated rate or backwards in time. It is theoretically possible to do both of these things although the technological means to do so is currently beyond our capabilities.

ok,

But what if we were to travel extremely quickly, as close to the speed of light as possible. (Becuase of course travelling at the speed of light we would have infinate mass). Sure time would begin to slow down. So we could jet off somwhere and come back in a year in our time, but back on Earth more like ten would have passed?

@gbrooks3

As I said, it is theoretically possible to do so, but the technology is beyond us at the moment.

There is then also the fact to consider that travelling forwards in time is perhaps 'easier' than travelling backwards in time. If you did travel forwards in time how would you get back again?

Travelling at close to the speed of light would be a highly impractical method of travel at any rate due to the time dilation. A much better means of travel would be to use something like a wormhole or a gravitational distortion of space-time, both of which could concievably be used to travel faster than light. It would also be posisble, theoretically, to use a wormhole to time travel, but again the technology is not available.

Are you sure?

I heard the next P series would have one built in

I think you have.

the flaw in that theory would be that say we did find a way to cut a hole (wormhole) in the space time...how would we be able to control its destination point??

@davo

Theoretically it may be possible to use properties of quantum entanglement to manipulate matter and energy anywhere in the universe, thus giving one a measure of control over a possible destination distant from one's start point. I should say that this is not something that is at all practical at the moment.

@the moderators

I believe the comedy value of this thread has been thoroughly exhausted. Could it be locked pleased, or better yet deleted?

Way to derail your own thread scots...
That leads to the dark side
