Well, it always depends on what kind of politics, what strength of politics, thats the problem. Whether its talking about your local MP or having a heated debate on Bush's decision on June 23rd 2004 regarding X...

@Meths

You make a good point actually. I can understand why some people would like to discuss politics here if it is with their friends, but when that is all that some ever post ...

I'm all for didcussions on a wide variety of issues.

Perhaps there should be a seperate 'room' for politics/religion (somewhere people have to choose to go, not merely get sucked in to).

I'm not sure how you can police the forum unless all non-mobil discussion was banned. And I think even the die-hard phone buffs would concede that would leave quite a dry forum.

A new rule should be brought in, people that try to provoke a reaction from someone in a number of differant threads should be banned, its simply causing threads to be ruined and i for one am bored of it

I guess you'd be the first to be banned then. In the past 24 hours you first of all you pick on me for quoting in responses ( I ask you!) and you know all about the second "attack".

Now, I can accept you did not intend to offend me (and no actual offence was taken) but I think it demonstrates how having a 'bit of fun', or whatever, can antagonise a situation.

Thats what i have suggested that a seperate Room be made for Politics/Religious topics ect..Maybe even a Password login so that only those members can enter who know what the rules are what kind of discussions they are joining,new moderators may be needed for this..Anyone who is not interested in Politics can that way stay in the mobiles only areas.

Thats not a bad idea. People will then have seperate rules for the poltical/ religion area and the discussions there cant spill out into the phone areas.

Sounds familiar However since making this suggestion to you a while back I've done some thinking on it.

I do believe it's a good idea for the 'US elections' type of threads.... however political issues rarely start out as political issues. They usually seem to start out as 'actuality, things seen on the news' and turn to political motives behind the news....... I can see where many people might have an opinion on the former that they wish to express.... however quickly pull out when the topic turns to the latter. Where should we have those kind of threads??? Move them around the place as they grow? That'll be a welcome addition to the moderators daily chores I'm sure

I've said it before and I'll say it again: it's not politics that is the problem, political threads are just a symptom of the underlying problem, which imho is this: people who simply cannot behave when confronted with opinions not like their own.
And to deal with this problem imho requires something other than rooting out the topic of discussion. It requires rooting out the bad manners and if necessary the people that repeatedly display them.

That way the crowd that stays behind might even resort to civilised discusion...

I agree with Marga. Again.

It's not the politics that's the problem; it's the people.
