Sony Ericsson strengthens links with Sony through appointment of Bob Ishida as Deputy CEO

July 28, 2011, London – Sony Ericsson today announces that Yoshihisa (Bob) Ishida will be joining Sony Ericsson as Deputy CEO and Executive Vice President with effect from 1 September. Rikko Sakaguchi will be leaving Sony Ericsson to take up a position at Sony Corporation.
Bob will be based at Sony Ericsson’s largest R&D facility in Lund, Sweden where he will take up the assignment as Deputy CEO and EVP. He will have responsibility for Sony Ericsson’s design centre and product and portfolio development teams as well as taking on a broader executive role to enhance integration and alignment across Sony Ericsson.
Bob is currently Corporate Executive, SVP, in charge of Platform & Partner Strategy and President of Sony’s Home Entertainment Business Group. He previously served as President of Sony’s TV Business Group as well as VAIO Business Group at Sony Corporation. He has a history of delivering strong results as part of Sony Corporation’s core leadership team within a range of disciplines across consumer electronics, IT and communications. Bob has recently been involved in developing the Android-based Sony Internet TV.
Bob Ishida commented: ‘I am excited about taking up the role of Deputy CEO and EVP at Sony Ericsson. Working closely with Bert Nordberg and the management team we will further strengthen the existing product portfolio by integrating content and services while leveraging the partnership with Sony and other key strategic partners’.
Bob’s appointment will provide greater focus on the integration of content and services into Sony Ericsson’s product portfolio. He will contribute to the company’s technology strategy that will deliver on Sony Ericsson’s ambition of becoming a leader in Android.
Rikko Sakaguchi has been part of the leadership of Sony Ericsson since the start up of the Joint Venture in 2001 most recently as Chief Creation Officer overseeing product and portfolio development. Since 2001 Rikko has provided a creative vision and strong leadership as Sony Ericsson built its brand through innovative music and imaging devices. More recently he has been instrumental in guiding the company as it develops Android smartphones which bring together communication and entertainment through a focused and innovative product portfolio.
Rikko Sakaguchi will continue to support Sony Ericsson in his new role at Sony Corporation. Further details of his new assignment will be communicated shortly.

44x32mm screen size ?!?!
isn`t it that too small for that resolution, cause that mean 2,2 inches diagonal?
Model name of the phone point to smaller model, so it should be smaller screen, but 2,2 with 854x480 will be most crispier and absolutely unreadable screen.

that is not the screen size, that's (ScreenSizeChar), AFAIk Char is a short for character... but I don't know what's the real meaning of this...

44x32 44x32 its not screen size and it is in pixels, not milimeters

I don't want a slim phone and a crapy cammera. I want good camera quality from sony and when i say good quality camera I don't refer to arc, neo etc.. they have awfull noise in pics even in dayllight.

Xperia Duo and Xperia Arc S will till us the story how serious are

working ..
If Xperia Duo comes with the same hardware compared to other Dual Core Phones without any Boost in Camera 8/16mp with Xenon flash or anything Else better than other Handset.. then we cant Hope anything great from them anymore

Qriocity video streaming coming to 2011 Xperia range..
Sony Ericsson has announced that a Qriocity video service will be coming exclusively to Xperia handsets from 1 August. The service will initially roll out in nine countries (UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Australia, Japan, Canada and the United States)
SE claims that the service will present a friendly way to buy or rent movies or TV shows from some of the biggest studios including from NBC, Universal, Paramount, Sony Pictures, Twentieth Century Fox and Warner Bros. The first handsets to get Qriocity video will be the Xperia mini and Xperia mini pro. It will also come to the Xperia active and Xperia ray on launch. Other 2011 Xperia handsets including the Xperia arc, Xperia neo, Xperia PLAY and Xperia pro will get the app through a software update later in the year. We expect further details to be announced shortly including pricing and whether video content can be downloaded for off-line viewing.
