I called O2 today to order a 3G SIM to go in my Vodafone P990....hope it works ok.

I also asked again for a release date of the P990 on O2 and was told 23rd November.

Since my last message, I've received a phone call from O2 telling me that when (and I suppose IF) the P990 is released, it will cost me £49 to upgrade. So, we have a price, but no phone.

It reminds me of the joke:

Man walks into shop:

Man: "How much are your apples?"

Shopkeeper "£2.50 a kilo"

Man "The shop in the next street are selling apples for only £2.00 a kilo"

Shopkeeper "So why don't you buy your apples from that shop?"

Man "Because they've sold out of apples"

Shopkeeper "Well, when I've sold out of apples, my prices will also be £2.00 a kilo"

MR at www.mobile-review.com has reported that the P990 has the highest return rate of any SE phone ever...this may explain why O2 are being hesitant about selling it...

Well, got my P990i, not as impressed as I first was.

I have the latest firmware and from a couple of hour playing have more issues:

1) Backlight sometimes stays on, doesn't fade
2) Wireless LAN connects fine until I turn WPA on which just will not connect no matter what - there seems to be no option for WEP either.
3) Battery life must be a joke.

The most amusing part of it all is that I called O2 to send me the P990i GPRS/MMS settings etc and they said "we are not getting that phone and therefore can't send you the settings" - brilliant!

The SE email configurator worked a treat, just need to enter the MMS settings manually now.

Then my question would be, if O2 are not supplying the P990 phone to either new or existing customers, where did you get your P990?

You Can aquire these settings from the se website under the Support tab! and they will be sent immediately via the web, no need to manually configure!

Thanks for the info, I found that shortly after I submitted the post!

My P990i is a Vodafone P990i that is unlocked and running the latest FW.

The backlight not fading appears to be totally random, I've performed all kinds of tests and it follows no given pattern!

Tomtom works a dream (no screen rotate though) and it fits perfectly into the HCH-64 holder.

As I had on my P800/900/910 before, I can not recommend the Martin Fields screen protectors enough - the cost a little bit more but you really can't tell its there.

Apart from the niggles mentioned earlier, I love it, the battery seems fine if you don't leave the wifi on (its gone down 13% in 6 hours with quite a bit of use).

Anyone who can offer any tips on WPA-PSK with a Linksys router would be my best mate! the WLAN works fine until I turn the WPA-PSK on....my other PCs in the house connect fine with the WPA-PSK on too so it is something on the P990i !!!!...I am entering the phrase correctly too

I appear to have solved my wifi issue, I can only get connected using WPA-PSK when I set my router to use WPA2, for which I had to download some new firmware for the router to achieve.

Just hope my other pc's like WPA2 tomorrow!

I will stop invading this forum with my woes now and leave my final comment that is off topic to be the advice of ignoring all of the reviews, my P990i still hasn't crashed once which I'm guessing is to to with the R7A001 firmware.
