it has been in numerous news articles in the business sections of the papers that the reason why NTT DoCoMo is investing in PLDT is so that it can license i-mode to SMART.

it's exactly the same reason why docomo invested in several european carriers: to get wider distribution and adoption of i-mode in the various 3G networks.

so at the very least, it is good news since we get to see what all the hype in japan is about.

@kabukijep

@619 - when your stocks of 608 arriving?

Pero I don't think 3G will be successful. Mahal masyado.

been using smart 3G on free trial today.

for speed comparison, i opened a webpage on my pc that had 55 images. pc is on 768kbps dsl connection. the pc took 17 sec to open the page. using 3G with opera browser, the same page took 1:35.

i also downloaded a 4.5mb file from the web. it took just under 13 min on 3G.

i'd say 3G feels like a 128kbps dsl connection. not bad for a mobile, especially since it's currently free!!!
