> O2 release date for P990 now 16th Oct (

I've been told the 23rd as well. In fact, I've been told on two occasions "the week beginning the 23rd" - the odd concept of a week beginning on Thursday. I suppose O2 employees learn to say "the week commencing" as part of training, in order to allow some flexibility in O2s fictional release dates.
A very helpful person in the O2 store suggested that the delay is due to O2 having problems getting their "approved software" onto the handset. If this is true, I hope it won't mean that it's impossible to connect via other networks (say, while roaming). I know 3 is famous for its blocking of other networks (although there are numerous 'modding' sites which have a solution to this problem). The O2 salesperson I spoke to today said the delay was from Sony Ericsson, a software issue.

I've just got off the phone (again) to Select CS...I asked if it's still due to be released this week and I was told:
"It's been put back to the 30th, it'll definately be released on the 30th"
Now we've all heard the 'D' word before, so I pushed more, saying that on at least 5 occassions, I've been told that i would definately be released on whatever date, he then assured me, that it would be the 30th that the stock is available for upgrade. He also confirmed that my handset was on pre-order.
I'm getting more and more wound up, but still, I suppose I got a fair deal off them. I'm getting the handset for free, 500 minutes and 500 texts, ITS and Select CS for £25p/m

I was told the 27th of november, last week so i gave up waiting and ordered the p990i off vodafone on my personal contract and ordered the w950i on my business contract with o2.
I have tried the o2 sim in the p990i and have so far been able to send sms, mms, email, browse the internet but haven't yet tried video calling!! due to lack of friends with said technology!!
personally i cant see what the delay is, especially if an o2 simcard will function in a dreaded vodafone branded phone!!

Well I was told 23rd this morning too. The CS guy said it was already out and they were being shipped to customers etc. It was due back in stock on the 23rd. I rang back to speak to someone else and they said 4 December but the date on the HRM system next to my name said 30 November 2006.
So here's hopeing I do not need to wait more than 10 days, but I have a feeling I will have to.
I got 1000 mins, 200 sms, ITS, Select CS, 12 month contract for £28 per month, so I ain't going anywhere else.

Can't believe this all... On Saturday I rang up and got the date of 4th December.... so I requested the PAC.
I then went to CPW to enquire, and they'll easily do the phone for me, it's even in stock. All I need is my PAC so I can transfer my number from O2 high-street to O2 CPW...
Can't wait to get the PAC (in 48-72 hours! grrr)... 'nuff'senuff!

As I understand it, you cannot transfer from O2 to CPW on the O2 network, and keep your number. For me, if I find O2 are branding their phones, I will end my contract with them, and probably take out a contract with CPW, but I will be forced to change network if I want to keep my number. So O2 will lose out both ways.

I have never heard of a week commencing on a friday before. Surely it should be week commencing 20th or 27th?

My dreaded vodafone brand is still going strong, it has now crashed though. It does it on certain web pages, annoyingly one of them is the "my ebay sign in" page.
My P910i crashed on some web pages to though so I can live with this.

@ lancsdemon
Not true, using my PAC I transfered from O2 billed by O2 to O2 billed by CPW around 2 weeks ago after getting totally hacked off with waiting for O2 to sort their act out . . . got a pretty good deal (which you can find somewhere earlier in this thread). As I understand it O2 used to not be able to pull people back from CPW, something to do with abusing their Monopoly position I think, but that too is not longer true as my wife transfered the other way around 6 months ago.
I they tell you you can't ask to speak to a manager because they are lying
