I know of someone who uses a StealthSIM with their UK iPhone (after Jailbreaking), so that's another option you could try.

Cool i'm right in thinking that if i get a UK iPhone now and buy one of these options then i can update through itunes without any problems as it won't mess with the baseband your just adding something onto the sim? If so i'll purchase an iPhone tonight as i'm gagging to get my hand on one again.

You know what? I asked the same question of the person who uses the StealthSIM, and she wasn't sure. I don't know, you might have to jailbreak it each time a new firmware comes out... The important thing is, you can get a UK iPhone, jailbreak it, and use any SIM you want using the StealthSIM.

Even so that is pretty easy and quick to do, can i ask where she got a stealth sim from? I'll have a read around it and make sure first and then take the plunge. I did have a USA model that broke as i put it into a apple hifi in HMV and it cocked it up, never been so gutted in all my life. Still have it as an ornament.

Damn! That sucks! Sorry to hear about your loss, Laura
I don't know where that person got her StealthSIM, it's not someone I know personally - it's someone on another forum I frequent. You could try Ebay, I guess.
In the meantime, I'll keep looking for more info for you.

looks like the new 1.1.3 update has arrived, expect the UK unlocking to commence, called my local unlocking dealer and they're on it, should be a couple of days till it's open sesame.

is there anyone that actually has a UK sourced iPhone working properly with a non o2 simcard...all i've heard so far are rumours and a friend of a friend talk...never a confirmed report.

Quick question, I have my o2 iPhone running on 1.1.2 which is jailbroken so i can use it with my own o2 contact,
if i upgrade the firmware to 1.1.3 will it need to be jailbroken again? or worse still will it brick it?
its not unlocked or anything.
