I was able to successfully update my unbranded unit and it is EMEA_6. I bought my phone here in Cambodia from an authorized SE retailer.

Nah, she's smoking crack. Sun deprecates classes but does not remove them. I.e. the methods/classes they use are still there and it has no impact on older code. For an example, go to my website (www.amromousa.com) and take a look at my AmBackup utility or the chat server/client -- both are written using 1.4 syntax and run fine under 1.5 using deprecated calls. Agreed, this is anecdotal but believe me that is not the case.

i tried breaking the phone first.
i did a normal update and took out the cable at 4%. i knew i was succesful when the phone would not turn on despite my best attempts.
so i did a recovery mode. same thing as always, stuck at 54% and then it would turn on again and not let me take pictures.
i don't think i've ever been more frustrated with a phone in my life.

i renamed the topic heading as it is not consistent (though most) stall at 43% anymore.
i bought davinci credit so i can get my phone back to work with R1L002 Euro 1, for now until SE addresses (if ever) this issue.

Thank you SE, your update service simply does not work. Recovery mode is an absurdity because it will never recover anything (indeed, the phone is turned off so...), it is just a basic mode to... insytall the USB flash drivers...
My phone was unbranded, black (not grey) etc etc...
