I dont agree with you at all.. The twist thing from Nokia is a new thing, noone knows if the mass of users will accept/like it at all. Second.. when the 6230 hit the market it was a huge success and it sold in buckets. The K750i/W800i is the new "6230". Its a light phone with a traditional look. It has good batteri-life, good screen, good camera, nice music features and is a phone for "everyone". Nokia doesnt have ANY phone at the moment that has these features and are still light. Dont bring up the N-series or 6280 again.. those are totally different phones. The 6230i is the only phone that you can compare with K750i/W800i today and thats not a good phone to tell the truth. 3G is not an important issue yet and SE knows that. Future phones from SE will of-course have 3G.

Klorin, good points. I agree that despite all the hoohah about smartphone/3G, Nokia still don't really have a phone with as broad appeal as the K750.

I had no idea SE considered 3G unimportant. Possibly those SE users who regularly use their phones for browsing enjoy slow gprs speeds while others using 3G phones zip along at the speed of light. Odd, ain't it. No accounting for preferences, i guess. As for future phones from SE having 3G, i'm certain they will, only it would be nice to have them in this century, if at all possible.

i must say i total disagree with this. this is the best chance se have of been a true global brand and getting into the top 3.
everyone with 3g is starting from a level playing field in terms of technology and handsets, nokias track record or anyones elses isnt that important as its seen by the general public as new so everyone has an equal chance to be seen as the best player in this new field. this is one of the few areas where a company can make an impact that will alst for years. look what happened to nokia when digital mobiles first hit the market, they total a simply forumula and donminated the market for many years after.
se are in a position were they could do the same but something tells me they will dilly dally around much like they do now and someone else will come along and take this market and make it there own

SE do have a 3G phone, and it's not too bad either.

But the fact is 3G isn't a global phenomonen yet. Even where it exists, data costs are often skyhigh. SE still have time to get on the bandwagon...

You r right. Nseries is a class above K750/W800. However, it would be too naive to think that N70 would not compete with W800. 3250/N70 have everything K750/W800 have and more and it is in the price range of K750/W800. Even the 6680/3230 would be competing with the K750/W800. Whether you like or not, Nokia mid to high end phones are not just niche smartphone but also mass-market phones like the K750/W800.

max_wedge:

Operators will be pushing 3G with very high subsidies. So the price of 3G handsets may be more attractive than non-3G. So chances are that 3G handsets would get more exposure leading to better sales.

i dont think they do have time as its all about planning ahead you dont want to be bring up the rear (if youll pardon the pun) you want to be leading the way with new techonolgy. theres no point in letting another company flood the market then trying to bring out new phones after everyone has one.
data is expensive but the more that stay away from it the more expensive it will become. look at text msg when they were new they were expensive now billions are sent and you can pick up msg for around 3p.
3g is going to be the world wide standard weather people like it or not, the networks have invested heavily in the infrustructure and buying licenses etc that they want there money back. at some point the 2g network will be turned off like the old anologue one was it maybe a few years away but its coming and for places like the uk it will be sooner rather than later.

Isn't that rather a contradiction in terms?

A mass-market smartphone?!

By mass-market smartphone I presume you mean, not a normal smartphone which has traditionally been a niche, high-end product, but a dumbed-down smartphone for the masses - in other words a not-so-smart phone?

Good, Nokia is excellent at making not-so-smartphones so I donˇ¦t mind them being the king of dumb phones!

Quote:doesnt all Nokia look like shit to you?

I happen to think the N70 is a nice phone ( f*ck me, did I just say that? I feel faint)

Quote:Many people ~esato are in agreement that K750 looks like design from the recycle bin.

Not even a fraction of the amount that thinks this 3250 design really sucks the big one

Quote:Ditto for W800 which looks like a kiddy phone. On this premise alone, 3250 buries the K750/W800. I hope you see the idiocy of this line of argument. hahaha..

There are plenty of people who would agree that they wouldnˇ¦t have that brick in their pocket no matter how smart/not-so-smart it was!

slattery69, I don't disagree in principle but how do we know what SE's plans are? Maybe they have done their 3G homework (I frankly would be surprised if any phone company would ignore 3G)? The K600 is a good sign of things to come. It is small, functional and has a reasonable camera.

It is a small 3G phone, and signifies to me that SE have done significant development on their 3G hardware to make it smaller. It shows that SE have listened to the market, which has said "we don't want 3G bricks". That is only the start, imho

you could be right but i still that at the moment they are mearly following others, samsung and a few others have already decreased the size of there phones, se werent the first nor is theres the smallest. i just fell that the 3g market been in its infancy is a great time for any business to really make there mark. look at nokia apple etc they are leading names in there field when you think mp3 you think ipod.
se could carve themselves a similar postion in the 3g market as no one is stepping forward to take a lead.
your right we dont know se s plans however how many phone to be released this year by se do not already have an idea about? probably not many given the pics etc weve seen so far
