Btw, If Nokia is soooo awsome, why you've had 40 in 5 years???
Don't you know that everyone changes their perfectly functional phone every month and a half? That's standard practice around here
Come to think of it - I've changed my phone 6 times in 5 years. Hmm... Maybe it's because my phones worked fine until the day I replaced them and even one of my oldest ones ( t68i) is still fully functional... Maybe I was wrong! Maybe people DON'T really replace their phones so often. Maybe that is something Nokia users do because they grow tired of their phones...

i guess most S60 users must be severely retarded as well not to notice how SLOW their phones are. i had a 6680 for 2 whole weeks before i could no longer stand it and sold it a loss just to get rid of it.
i even clocked to be sure i wasn't imagining things. 35sec just to open the gallery folder? just about every command you issue has a lag as it's single digit IQ brain tries to understand what the hell you just said. and from what i hear, the N73 is just as bad.
so what good are all those functions if when you want to use them, you have to go make yourself u cup of coffee and probably take a dump as well while its idiot brain tries to decipher what the hell just went on???
but why do you compare symbian phones with non-symbian ones? at least SE symbian phones are much quicker than the brain-dead nokias.
well, let's just agree to disagree ok? you think all SE's are the same, and i think all nokias are dogs' diarrhea. that's fine. i really don't give a rats uss what you think anyway. but if you want to come in here in speak in that tone, then you shouldn't mind when someone throws it right back at you.
If ever there was a fanboy vs fanboy paragraph..this is it..pathetic..grow up.

Before I start I will make it clear that I am an avid nokia user, I know many of you will argue "nokia fan, nokia have bad customer service, bla bla bla", here are the facts of the matter
more sonyericsson phones have the hissing problem (every single time a new SE model is released), there is some sort of hissing, I’ve never experienced this with nokia and have owned over 40 models in the last 5 years, from the 3330 to N73,
Sony ericsson make the same phones over and over again with the same bullsh*t features, there is no SE phone that can match any of the Nseries range expect when comparing battery power, and I admit SE battery power and usage of battery is amazing
SE lack functionality, and should start using Symbian to improve functionality, who cares about a 2.0 mega pixel camera when you've got a cr*p screen to view pictures on (tiny screen), look at the n70, n73, N90, 6280, the business range etc. They kick SE ass, however the new business range by SE do have potential
When the T68i first came out, I was one of the first to own it, and that’s when I converted to SE, until a point SE phones stopped evolving, which they have now
There is no phone out there that will make me convert back to SE unless SE implement symbian in most of their top range phones, I mean how many times can you brand a phone a WALKMAN, it's starting to annoy me,
Did I mention SE phones lack major functionality and are limited in many ways with the same boring interface, lack real customisation, etc. 1 example is low res 3gp recording? i mean come on were moving on to higher res MP4, do you know how annoying that is, having that on a 2mp phone, recording videos at such a sh*t resolution, you might as well not have the feature at all
Ok rant over ... I look forward to some of your responses to my controversial post

I guess all phone companies come out with a variation of an existing product every now and then. think of the R&D cost to come up with a new one.
anyway I remember a time (pre graphics) when nokia interface was the easiest to use.
But has SE gone so far that it's non-symbian OS is being compared to a symbian OS? Or has Nokias non-symbian OS/phones been left so far behind they are not worth comparing anymore (except for the latest ones ie 6233)?

Has Nokia (or any other manufacturer) never had any problems with their handsets at all?
Flaws do happen, but I wouldn't necssarily say that SE are rubbish because of one particular flaw in some of their handsets.

This seems to be a case of the pot calling the kettle black. Nokia released slightly different versions of handsets for years.
Some recent SE hansets have been rather similar I'll grant you and I would agree that this isn't good enough, but SE are hardly the first manufacturer to do so.
Quote:

SE haven't really been competing in that market segment so it is hardly surprising that they have few, if any handsets, to directly compete with the N series. This isn't necessarily indicative that SE are not releasing good handsets though, simply that they are not competing in a certain area as much as other companies are.
If you look back over SE's smartphones you will see that they have never had a wide range, in fact this is really the first year that there has been more than one SE smartphone available. SE isn't as large as Nokia and so their portfolio has been considerably smaller. Now that SE's portfolio is expanding we can see them releasing more smartphones and I daresay that's a trend that will continue.
One should also not assume that every manufacturer is going to follow the same strategy or focus the same attention on particular areas of the market. What Nokia considers important SE may not and vice versa.

This is a flawed argument; you are comparing different features and drawing conclusions that really aren't valid.
What exactly is 'functionality'? A smartphone is all very well and good, but not everyone needs a smartphone, indeed most people don't. Just because you happen to think that Symbian is good does not mean to say that the general public is clamouring for Symbian handsets. If you actually look at how most people use their handsets, Symbian features aren't really necessary for most customers.
If you look at handsets like the K750, W800, W810 and K800, all of which have proved to be very popular, none of them have Symbian. They offer features, which many people want, and which don't require Symbian.
SE has recently overtaken both Motorola and Samsung to take the number two spot in the UK; their handsets don't seem to be doing too badly. This is no doubt, in large part, due to SE giving people what they want. What do most people use their mobiles for? Calls, texts, perhaps a spot of web browsing/downloading and taking pictures. In this respect a good camera is probably going to be more appealing to a majority of customers than whether or not they can install an application to read spreadsheets.

Not at all, SE handsets have continued to change over the years. SE now have a much broader range of handsets than they did five years ago. The handsets we see today are much more focused than in previous years. We already have music and imaging as areas for handsets to focus on and soon enough we shall start seeing 'emotion' as another area.

Then don't buy a SE handset, you're not forced to. If you don't like SE handsets then fair enough.
Why should SE implement Symbian in it's high-end handsets? It seems that handsets like the K750, W800 (top of the range in their day) and the K800 have done rather well without it. Most consumers are not interested in smartphone features yet, they want a mobile that does the basics with certain advanced features included. Symbian just isn't a major consideration for most people buying a mobile phone. SE knows that, which is probably why we haven't seen more smartphones from SE up until now.

Yes you did so let's not repeat ourselves.
Quote:

This is a subjective term. What you think is boring someone else may not and vice versa. The fact that SE seems to be doing quite well at the moment would seem to suggest that not everyone finds their UI boring.

lack real customisation, etc.
By 'real customisation' do you mean cheap garishly coloured plastic fascias designed to promote whatever z-list celebrity/event is currently in fashion? If so I think SE should be applauded for the fact that few of their handsets have such things.
Seriously though, what exactly do you mean by 'real customisation'? Beyond putting a new theme on the firmware/software how exactly do we customise our mobiles (fascias aside) without resorting to custom paint jobs, modifying hardware, etc? Most of the customisations that can be done to most handsets (from any manufacturer) are relatively superficial in nature unless one gets 'under the bonnet', so to speak.

What is it you think you're using? A television camera? Few, if any mobile phones, can currently claim to record anywhere near the quality of a proper camcorder. Most people do not buy a mobile phone with visions of recording a major motion picture in mind; the video recording function is most probably used by most people to record drunken relatives dancing atrociously at weddings or pets doing funny tricks. A basic video recording function is quite adequate for that.

It's not really controversial, more like you giving your opinion, which you are entitled to do. That and some of this has been discussed before.
