Someone has started a petition for the W810 audio file hiss problem.
So if you're someone who's disappointed with the W810 (like me) then adding your name to it may help get SE to do something about it:

The petition has 144 signatures as of today. I don't think it would make a difference, but we can at least reflect our disappointment. Against the defect itself, and SE's ignorance towards its customers.

It doesn't seem to be present on other new model phones. Only on w810, w800 and k750, as it says here :

Wow, what timing for a thread?! I was going to Sony Plaza tomorrow to their SE Store specifically to buy a W810. Now, change of plans. I'll go and look, but no way I'm buying anything! I'll at least wait until MacWorld and see what Apple has to offer in the way of the rumored iPhone.

Something like a dozen people at work, at my firm and others, look to me for technology advice. Personal buying recommendations, like what laptop to buy, what cell phone, etc. I'm the local alpha-geek with a fetish for gadgets so naturally I've become a source of info. Until there is a satisfactory resolution to this issue, I'm stearing myself and everyone who asks away from Sony Ericsson phones. I love my K790i, but if the company behaves like it is, ignoring this problem, how can anyone have faith in them? The rootkit fiasco was bad, but another problem like this just tears their remaining credibility to shreads. And with so many other choices available for cell phones, why go with a company that doesn't care about their customers?

I might only be one little, insignificant sale to SE, but who knows how many sales I'll steer away from them? Ah, that Canon camcorder was looking pretty good anyway....

I hear you man..! I e-mailed SE about it and they told be that they are unaware of such an issue on W810. I replied and sent some links, and told them that they are now aware of it. No replies of course

My trust against them has totally been destroyed. What now happened to w810 owners may happen to others later on. I sincerely hope they will do something to repair their prestige.

In SE's defense, they won't admit there is a problem until a minimum number of complaints are received on the issue. I have no idea what that number could be, but until enough folks contact them with this issue, they won't even acknowledge it. Also, the words of one guy on the developer web site shouldn't be construed as the definitive answer from SE on the issue. What company has anyone seen be quick to admit a problem? Sucks, but it will take time to be recognized, and then for a firmware patch or revision to be written. If you're in the unlucky group that has a phone with this issue, contact customer support more than once, and post on your carrier's message board. Then be patient.

Now, having just defended them, I will say this. They are getting no more sales from me or anyone who asks for my advice. They have to show me something first.

You are right about companies' approach on troubleshooting problems. So i think my e-mail at them may be a step towards a solution to this problem? I hope so, as the SE i know used to be responsive towards the consumer feedback.

GSM Arena here has someone suggesting a fix for the hiss. Not an official one, so may kill your warranty, but do you think this actually works? Or just another one of those w800 fixes?

This is what the guy says :

Solution to the hiss problem:

http://rapidshare.de/files/23376730/No_Hissing.rar.html
download this file first, then download FAR manager from http://www.farmanager.com/
then download SEFP(SE Flash program) plugin needed for FAR manager, download this plugin from http://forums.se-nse.net/index.php?showtopic=3666 place this plugin in program files/FAR/Plugins folder. Now start FAR manager, press Alt+F1,choose SEFP and press enter. Choose the DCU-60 cable and press enter again. Your can now access your phone.
Go to the folder (left screen) ifs/settings/acoustic using FAR. Delete the files mentioned in the rar in the first post. Just highlite the files using mouse or arrow keys and press shift + delete. FAR will ask a confirmation to delete the file. Delete all mentioned files using this command.

Then go to de folder (right screen) where you extracted the file(No Hissing.rar).
Use shift + arrow keys to select all files. Just drag the files to the ifs/settings/acoustic folder. Confirm the copy.

Restart your phone (just remove your battery and put it back when needed) and ... The hissing is gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can anyone confirm this actually works or not?
