tru, i neva considered the issue of the iphone not having 3G... tho i must admit i hardly get coverage to use 3g where i live so i cud live without it personally.
Wit the iphone's advanced browsing capabilities you'd expect it to have the ability to transfer data at high speeds- say wit a 3G network. But wifi kinda makes up for it, i dont think its that much of a big deal not having 3G for internet browsing seeing as tho transfering the huge amounts of data over 3G that 'Safari' would demand would cost a bomb, its better off sticking to wifi.
3G for video calling however would have been nice.

If it works as promised (and shown) Apple's iPhone will beat the crap out of the P990i. I really hope it does, seeing that I miss a lot of features on my P990 that it's suppose to handle, but does not in reality.
Video playback doesn't work for example. A tad sluggish, although latest FW remedied things somewhat. Bad web browsing.
What do you think?
i think you are a person who needs to think twice before making a fool out of yourself!
P990 is an old phone, and the iphone isn't even out yet.
its easy to say that a just annouched phone kills another one thats been out of a year. a useless thread!

@DragonEye, you are really making a fool of yourself...you should try a P990 with latest fw before saying crap like that...it may not have fullfiled all that people wanted, but its far for being a faillure
And yes, this is a lame topic

lol ares to the p990i rescue..
let's take a look at why the m600i is better then the p990i from a UI standpoint...
1)active standby is not burried in a useless "shortcut icon"
2)i can custimize the stanby icons on the m600i those 2 reasons alone make the m600i better..
from a hardware standpoint.. sure it has wifi and a camera... but it's also thicker
i'm not wasting any more money on a p990i... the fact that it took them 3 firmwares to include a feature as simple as auto settings is pretty sad... not to mention the video lag and poor playback of videos in the first 2 firmwares...and such poor memory management... lol
i do have faith in the m600i series though...(but i hope they finally put to rest the p9 series....)

I think you guys are also missing a big issue (only one or two people mentioned it):
If you're in the USA - the iPhone will be locked to Cingular. You're going to be wed to a 2 year cingular contract... and after that, unless someone figures out how to unlock it, you're going to be stuck w/ Cingular forever.
Not necessarily the end of the world, but definitely a pain if you travel overseas and like swapping SIM cards (be prepared for $1.99 a minute international roaming.
doh!
Oh but wait, no UMTS = no roaming in Japan or Korea.
double doh!
And speaking of us asia travellers, you better start practicing how to write chinese characters with your fingernails.... cause no stylus = character recognition hell.
triple doh!
And while I'm at it, not that the P990 can do it, but notice no mention of VoIP (probably because of that name licensing fight w/ Cisco...)
extra doh!
The keypad is a big question mark, i am hesitant about that... it could be OK, or it could be a real dealbreaker.
But that said, the design and the hardware are impressive in many respects. I like the fact that they put an accelerometer in it. that opens the door to a lot more interesting software down the road.
But as people have mentioned, this is a first gen apple product, which isn't even hitting the street for 6+ months, so any conclusions you draw now are purely good for internet forum BS arguments.

The WiFi idea won't work in the UK. The hot spots aren't exactly on every street corner and won't be for ages, free hot spots are even harder to find.
So you'll be stuck for the majority of the time whilst out and about paying for 2.5G data speeds!!!! Or edge if you lucky enough to get it.
Sorry can only seeing that useless google map idea costing ££££££ to use. What's with google map's when almost EVERY other smart phone iw now moving over to include GPS?
@DragonEye, I'm sure if you remove the flip on a P990 you can do all those things you mentioned no? Or is the P990 running a completly different OS to the M600?

the p990i works better with the flip on imo...
removing the flip won't change a thing... (i thought it would at first)
UI is the same just not a fan of the tweaks made to the p990i

as much as I like the Apple products for their powerful and strong line of products, I hate these at the same time because their are so expensive. Don't get me wrong, their products are worth the money for horse power.
BUT, any time I had to purchase an accessory, I had to look to see if it is MAC compatible. It is a real challenge to find one and better yet, to find a good deal. Everything must be MAC compatible.
So consider me am out when it comes to Apple products.
