Nope theres alot of differences, the wheel arches etc ect Jap cars look like toys, German cars just look solid!!
The only thing Jap about the Jetta 5, I say is the rear lights.

You cant make a Civic look like this

the VW Jetta has/had electrical problems, but VW cars are pretty popular by some crowds here in the US.

Those "crowds"
And it's not just electrical problems. There are plastic problems: window regulators, 1.8T diverter valves, VR6 intake crossover valves and timing chain guides, interior trim that sheds its "soft touch" skin and uninstalls itself, and so on. Not to mention paint problems: my original alloy wheels have the measles (clearcoat is flaking off from all 4), and my hatch trim handle is turning dark matte gray from shiny silver. (Yes, I do take excellent care of my vehicles, so that's not the issue.)

As God-awful boring as a Toyota Camry will be, at least it will look and run showroom-new for 200,000 miles. And deliver better gas mileage - on regular gas, no less - to boot.

imo u have high bills at anything, if its quality. as i know, german cars are usually expensive in the states, like mercedes too. japanese cars are cheap, but compare it witha german car...

here are american cars expensive, mainly cos of the service and replacemtn aparts, cos all that has to be shipped overseas. so we have the same situation, just in the opposite way

It's now at the stealership. We'll see if they actually find everything wrong, and if so, whether or not VW tries to weasel out of paying for this under warranty.

Also had another look at VW's latest models... while I was buying yet another part for my GTI (this time, a washer fluid pump). All I can say is

Rabbit (Golf) and GTI look like yesteryear's Honda Civic hatchbacks
Jetta looks like a Toyota Corolla
Passat sedan looks like the front half and rear half came from two completely different cars
Passat wagon is simply fugly

Not to mention, they've reduced the quality of the interiors over the previous models. This is apparent in the materials, and also the seat-folding mechanism of the 2-door GTI. (It's not nearly as smooth or easy to use as the A4-chassis GTI and New Beetle.) Also, if the Rabbit got bigger, why is the trunk 3 cubic feet smaller There wasn't hardly any extra legroom to account for the difference.

And the 2.5L I-5 is an embarrassment of German Engineering

The only lookers are the Beetle and Eos, neither of which is of any use to me at all.

Toyota's looking better - hell, VWs resemble them anyways now, except in reliability.

VW's have a deserved quality reputation here in the UK, all the VW owned subsiduaries have too.
US cars on the whole are considered laughable on this side of the pond!!
