Well they must think the partnership is beneficial to both for them to jump in bed together.
SAGEM will be producing SE branded ultra low end phones for emerging markets and they will swap notes on UI developement too.

i'd say it would be a great idea for ericsson to make smartphones and sony to make walkman and cybershot phones....
