> Considering a P990i; should I not?

Alright, I just ordered a P990i. In the end, I ordered it from Expansys.ca, because, according to the service rep I spoke to on the phone, they have a special arrangement with UPS so that all brokerage fees will already be sorted out. So, whatever amount my invoice is, I shouldn't end up paying more when it crosses the border.
Thanks so much everyone for your thoughts!
S4k1s, thanks for the considerations. In the end, I guess I felt that for the price it is currently, it's still a usable device with some more advanced features.
Oh, another question. I know that I can synchronize the PIM software with Outlook. However, is there any other software that I can sync with? I don't have Outlook installed right now, and only have the older 2000 version anyway. It would be nice to have some lighter-weight software to synchronize with.

Hopefuly all goes well with your purchase. When you receive it, you might want to check your organizer version first and unless it's the final version (R6D23), you should update it. But this is also subject to your preference, some would prefer to stay with R5A17 while I myself find R6 to be my cup of tea (no more backlight bug that's really annoying and battery sapping, more stable, slower memory leakage). If you get an organizer lower than R5 though, I don't think you have a choice but to update it to R6 unless you find a way to tweak the system.

Don't buy an already dead phone: you don't have the right to receive firmware updates because they say it's OK. Well it's KO, not OK.
P990i was the last phone I bought, and believe me, till today I bought only SE phones, great fan, but now I'm free of curse, I'll choose something else than SE.

I just found that my P990i was shutdown. My first suspicion was "restart for performance improvement" but there was no restart. Only Exchange Active Sync with associated email client and Swiss Manager Pro was running in the phone in flight mode plus wifi enabled. That is, there was not that much multi-tasking the phone is supposed to be capable of. It was used only as a PDA - there was no phone call.
Actually, I waned to switch the phone off before going to bed. Seeing it dead I pushed the power button and then noticed the red LED. Then there was low battery prompt etc. Battery level was 0%. I am not sure when it was shut down - it was about six hours after USB charger was disconnect when I found it in this condition. It was charged whole day via USB cable. (Battery level never goes above 83% with USB charger.) Now I just plugged it in AC charger.
I had found the phone a little bit hot yesterday while it was in the case on a desk (not in pocket) in flight mode - same conditions as mentioned above. I could feel the case hot! I guess it was about 40 degree centrigate. I switched it off and then on after which it was normal as far as temperature is concerned.
This is the third SE phone with overheating problem. (I need to admit that there is nothing serious until now.) First one was Z800i. It overheated probably up to 50 degree Centigrade while it was in my pocket. Almost fully charged battery was drained to almost 0%. SE service center said that battery was faulty and replaced. No overheating problem with this phone though there are other minor problems. Second overheating was withK610i. SE service center did not find any problem with the phone or battery and seems O.K. now as far as this over heating problem is concerned. There is still some minor out of the box problems.
As as SE fan I ignored minor issues with four of the five SE phones I owned so far. Now SE's response to P990i issue has made me very very angry. May be I have bad luck to encounter at least some problem with four out of five phones.

Haha, thanks for that thread link bondizi! Makes me more excited for the arrival of my P990i. It's been shipped, so hopefully it will arrive early next week. Monday is a holiday here in Canada, so maybe Tuesday ^_^;
BBS, sorry to hear about your battery problems! Can't believe you've experienced it on more than on SE devices! I've actually never experienced any battery problems before, so I'm hoping that I won't have that problem with the P990i.

You made a good choice. I was thinking and realised that there is absolutely no a single reason to change my P990 for upcoming P1. It simply works perfectly for me. I am sure you will enjoy it.

Wish you will be a happy owner of P990i. I will continue to use my P990i until it is broken but its replacement will not be SE phone unless SE improves this phone a little bit more.

To be honest I bought P990 perfectly understanding its memory limitation and never regret it. And after one or two fm I realised that it will not change. So although I bark at SE regarding their decision to stop suporting P990 in reality I am very satisfied P990 owner and dont have any problem to use it another year or 1.5 until next P series comes. It simply do wonders for me so how can I be unhappy.
