If anyone is able to comment on how music sounds, What Hi Fi are the people to do it, their reviews are always spot on, My Hi Fi was bought on their recommendation and you will not get a better sounding Hi Fi this side of £1k.

But yeah, I've never found the phones to be that good on audio quality, afaik the phones use digital decryption of the music, which allows you to adjust the bass, mid and treble if you so wish, I think HTC do it differently, they use components rather than software to decrypt the music.....

does this also mean that it is not limited by hardware?
well if it doesnt it would be great right?

Lcjii...

why the hell are you plugging a stereo phone in to a 5.1 surround system?? your phone is not able to produce 5.1..

and everything is limited by hardware... hence why i said there will be a difference as you will not get a DACs into a phone!!

also.. for hi hi hardware to work 100% it has to be on a solid base with no vibrations and you are never going to get that on a mobile!!

oops hi fi hardware..

a DAC is a digital to analogue convertor.. most audio things have them, as you don't get dolby digital hi fis!

basically.. you put a CD in a CD player, it reads it in a digital format, this is then passed through the DAC and comes out the other end as an analogue format that you then pass to your amp then your power amp if you so wish then to your speakers... and ideally you want a L channel DAC and a R channel DAC, but said DACs don't come cheap and aren't small.. which is why atm you don't get them in phones..

hopefully things will change and i'll start using MP3 and what not, but my MD player is just too good at the moment!

I've only ever used a 60gb iPod Photo, 1gb iPod Shuffle, W800i, W810i, W900i, W550i. And yes the phones are better at sound until you change the head phones, after that they suck. As for the ipod it's the other way.. with the stock cans they are crap, change the cans and the sound is ok...

it's strange to say the least!

What Hi Fi yes they know their stuff and they review all sorts of stuff and that includes the mobile mp3 player from time to time. I am interested to see what the iphone sounds like and what its reliability is like too. What Hi Fi said the sound of the W950i was muddy and muffled even with other headphones. Dont get me wrong i love Sony my hi fi is a Sony but their walkman phones leave alot to be desired for me. Even the new Samsung mp3 phone the double sided one i forgot model number that was rated higher. You know what i really hate about those Walkman headphones is those rubbery bits cos they blocked your ears by pushing (yuk) any remaining wax deeper in to the ear and i clean my ears well. Lol.
