> What can we expect of the P3i?

It's been fun reading all the wish lists and comments regarding the P3i. To tell you the truth though, I don't think it'll really be anything revolutionary (evolutionary hopefully). That concept photo has gotta be one of the funniest ones I've seen. I'd like to see someone carry something that long with them. Can you imagine someone putting that in a carrying case clipped to their belt haahaha ^^.
On a more serious note, I don't like the concept of the P series going slider....never liked sliders to begin with. I think a more feasible solution would be to go the way of the iPhone. Before anyone flames me, let me state that i dont' particularly like the iPhone, but it does present an interesting concept. Just think if SE made something the same size as a the P1i but it's all screen. On top of that it can use all the UIQ apps and actually be MORE than eye toy. No keyboard = more screen.
Though...it'd be funny to see how all those iPhone fanatics are doing a few years from now when the touch sensitivity or screen starts dying and they can't even dial out numbers hahahaha.

Nice point. My friend's P990 just got a problem where the touch part of the screen is not working. However, just using the jog dial+keyboard it's possible to do almost everything but the experience reminded me why I want a touch screen. If people are using applications that require a lot of text input (EG. emails) I'd like to see how full screen devices perform.
I also favor the flip, it is the only way to have true one handed operation and makes life so much easier when the P990 is used as a phone.

Actually I did not want this thread to turn into a wish list...
I'm planning to buy a P1i but I wanted to hear what was around the next corner - just to see if I should wait a little longer - but then again we can't keep waiting can we...?
Absolutely not, there is always a better phone around the corner. We have to plump for one sometime! All these people who say to wait for such a model to come out aren't living in the real world. My contract was up for renewal in May but there was nothing I liked then. I thought I'd wait a bit. The P1i came around in August so I went for it. Yes I could wait until October for something ''better'' but life is too short! All those months I have been using an even older phone! I always choose a 12 month contract so another phone will be in my hands in a year's time anyway. It's no great shakes. Time waits for no one. ;- )

I'm with Ares on the point that flip should be included, not only for truly single-handed operation but for the sleek, stylish look of a normal phone which can be conveniently transformed into a computer. There is such a romantic statement in the flip that is priceless and unique IMO and has become a trademark that is still functionally relevant, especially if the flip would open to unveil a significantly bigger screen. Aside from the fact that I want more RAM, faster processor, Flash support and HSDPA which are very well expected, I leave the rest for SE to surprise me. We all have high expectations, but creativity is for them to unfold

My wishlist:
- Huge processor capability (upto/over 1GHz)
- Almost unlimited Memory Card support (from 16 MB upto xx- GBytes)
- Virtual Memory or paging (using Memory Card as extended RAM)
- Better screen (can be seen on direct sun light), and film protected
- WiMax capability
- Attach any 5MP (or upwards) CyberShot camera to it.
- AutoConnect bluetooth (do not need activate BT, or press any key when an already paired device is turned on)
- Better Power Management and long lasting battery.
- No bugs (so SE can farth away whenever they can -- PLEASE NO MORE FW UPDATING -- it is annoying)
- (This may apply to Operators) To have WiMax and WiFi integrated to their networks so "P990-successor" can do
a call hand over on GSM/UMTS/WiFi/WiMax networks.
- Image size adjustable using the JogDial instead using the stylus, something like the iPhone does using only your
fingers.
- Be able to use the camera-LED as a lintern.
- Radio/Phone-conversation recording capabilities
- Insert a joystick, instead of those 5 middle buttons (center botton sometimes is hard to press, due to
is too slim).
- Remove the flip and have the Qwerty keybord placed slidable (just like N95 has theirs, thus screen space
will be the whole front area, such as Palm).
- GPS is a must, such as IR, BT, WiFi.
- No need to use wired earphones to listen Radio (built in antenna)
- Audio/video output.
- Local build/compile capabilities (very own apps on Symbian or C/C++)
- Water resistant (or at least sealed just in case of any coffee spilling).
- Being able to connect USB memories to "P990-successor" and manage its information (plug in any USB flash memory
and download/upload information - no need of a PC with SE drivers installed).
- More audio/video codecs/format support (avi, ogg, awb if2/if2, etc)
...among some others (flying around my head).
Cya!
Amen Brother, but you missed you missed out a portable TV app.
SE And SONY are very different. SONY are like lets shove everything we can in ie. BRAVIA TVs, PS3 well sort of, and remember that PC that was also a fully fledged widescreen TV and Hifi system. and not worry about the price aslong as it has the Sony badge it'll sell.
SE are more price savvy (not a bad thing but hey) but it means the Sony "slap it all in" mentality is lost. so it wont happen
SE need to build the best phone in the world, with as much functionality as a laptop and price it the Sony way. IMO of course

I've heard so many people talk about the flip but never before have I heard it said so neatly...
Suddenly my P990 looks better. Good for you!
