> Should I buy the P1i now

I selected all entries and used the "send as" trick on my p910 to get a all.vcf file which i copied to my p1 and imported.
Worked perfectly.
As for calendar, I took the attitude that anything anyone wanted me for and didn't remind me about before hand couldn't have needed me very much
Everything else I was happy to loose, it was all junk anyway. Does the soul good to get rid of all the flotsam occasionally

I have a feeling the problems are occurring after I sync my existing Outlook database.
My existing entries are valuable and I can't ignore them. I also don't have the budget to purchase a product such as Oxygen Manager, which presumably does a cleaner synchronization.
In any case, problems often surface in a product after heavy use, and a sound product handles heavy load usage well. The p1i clearly doesn't.

Anil,
I really think you're trying to judge all P1s on the basis of your own handset which is clearly faulty. You go around this site looking for all the problems others are having to back up your assessment but ignore all the guys and gals out there who think the P1 is a rock solid smartphone which does everything you could reasonably ask of it.
Why don't you actually get your phone checked over before slagging off all p1s? I may not have over 1000 contacts but 700+ is plenty and I have certainly NEVER had any problems synchronising or getting duplicates. I also have fewer appointments but again, have never had any problems.

qseh, I try and buy the best product around without being tied down to any brand. I bought a SE P900 that worked flawlessly, then a Nokia 7710 that worked equally flawlessly though slow. That's the way a production machine should work. Flawlessly. And uniformly for all units, unlike the P1i where people have vastly different experiences with their units. Anything less is not a production machine.
It's quite clear that the P990 was a disaster with a large number of bugs. It's equally clear that the Pi1 has inherited many of those bugs. SE has not bothered to fix them and just thrown more RAM into this machine as a stopgap measure till their next PDA that is due in 2008.
Some problems may be due to UIQ3 which I believe is fairly new.
In any case, as a discerning consumer, I do not like being a guinea pig for any company. Be it SE. Or any other company.

Thatīs false...the majority of people reporting on forums are very happy with the device, and do not talk about any big problems.
Regarding P990, it was also made a stable device with the last firmwares, but the lack of RAM keeps making it a somewhat handicaped device. Even so, its in the P990 case than you can find alot of people with vastly different experiences, not the P1...

to see if anyone else is having problems. It is an open letter to SE urging them to pay attention to the problems being faced by their smartphone use base with the P990 and the P1i.

i think you did not understand it...its mainly signed by users of P990, M600 and W960, NOT P1
also, the reason for the letter is that users think they should have more firmware development, and not just one year, like happened with P990/M600/W950
This DOES NOT MEAN those phones are full of bugs on their latest firmware revision, and that is even far from truth regarding the P1, a perfectly normal stable smartphone, that yes, has its issues, like every other device, but its very good and reliable
why are you pushing a thread that does not represent at all P1 users to base your arguments??? that is a JOKE

I think you miss the point, ares. The letter is clearly aimed at SE's handling of UIQ 3 for the P990i and its successor. Would that be the P1i?

its you that miss the point...i am a veteran my-symbian user...a early P990 adopter also...i know what is behind the letter and what type of users are signing it and what for...it was i and others that though actions
it does not tell anything about the P1 hardware/software state
