I wasnt a fan of GPS initially but now that its improved on mobiles I love it!!
First I used the N95 wasnt all that good, pretty standard.
Then I used the P3300 and it blew me away very impressive little device!! Lots of cool features!
The the 6110 excellent GPS phone compared to any other, found my location even under 3 floors of concrete! Voice navigation works well, auto re route everything, was really cool.
Recently I used the Blackberry 8310 and guess what was impresses further, it doesnt store maps on the phone but downloads it fresh of the RIM server and no download charges as it uses a zero rated apn!
But the coolest thing is the pedestrian navigation, it shows a pedestrian way of getting to your destination, like crossing through parks and using bridges etc.... really useful, not so much here in SA but in Europe it would be prefect!
Altogether GPS phones are improving, SE is falling behind again....

Of course the BB's have better battery they have no 3G never mind HSDPA so use much less battery. But then they also have much slower Data transfer abilities as well as a consequence of this fact but then they are primarily Buisness devices and E-Mail focused. Unlike the N95 that is a multi media device and has so many functions to eat up battery power if used all the time.
Compare your BB's with my E61 that also has WiFi and a 1500aMh Li polymer battery that lasts for days that's a like for like comparison. It s' also the only device i have been able to run Tom Tom on without the need to have it plugged into a car charger and still have plenty of battery left.
As it happens i am not a fan of inbuilt GPS receivers in any device as currently a stand alone receiver gives far better results IMO and Tom Tom is my mapping option of choice. I definitely have no need for a touchscreen for my GPS and mapping to work and the E61 screen is simply one of the best i have used. I can handle carrying a small and powerful GPS receiver with over 100 hrs battery life and smaller than a packet of cigarette's is hardly large for the results it delivers.

SE are making a dongle though aren't they with a GPS thing you plug it in the bottom of the phone like a headset and it gives you gps, I remember this device being K850i compatible.

check sony ericsson wap on the k850i and select k850i
and go to software
it has google maps and an app called wayfinder which under details states that it compatible with GPS

those are applications that you mention and any java enabled phone can run them and link to an external GPS via bluetooth to provide route planning etc

just downloaded the app and it asks to connect gps
maybe we'll just have to wait for the headset with gps
or maybe its an easter egg in the phone and se will release the feature in a update (which i doubt)
