So what about hay-fever sufferer's, should they be banned from driving too? You can travel a very long distance at 70mph during a sneezing fit, with running nose and irritated eye's. Maybe the govenment should ban farmers planting feilds of yellow rapeseed at the side of motorwhays.

We'll all be pulling off the road to fart next...

Ps. Do ya like my new spelling of Motorwheys, I was gonna delete the "h" but it looks good!

Take care all, Happy smokin and safe driving!!!

to be honest i think its a good idea. also putting the age up to 18.

in the past 2 weeks to of my friends have been involed in serious accidents due to other drivers not having their full concentration on the roads.

you should use your car to drive. not to smoke in take mobile phone calls etc.

exactly, but its not the fact that someone is smoking that means they are going to take you out while your running! it doesnt take anything to distract someone.

daydream? ban those then and fine people for daydreaming while driving. loadsa people do it?! especially when on the local regular route.....

absolutely... u r right it is not the smoking itself. but smoking does fit into the catagory of distraction and therefore should be treated in the same way as other distractions!

So as far as distractions go, What about the "Hot Totty" and "Yummie Mummies"? Arghhh... get me some Blinkers!
How dose "joe Public" argue against a law? I think the government is looking for any way to fine it's people, it's another type of stealth tax for nicotine addicts.

this is no different, the driver should still maintain control of their car and twisting your neck side and rearwards and not watching the road ahead can hardly be called driving with due care and attention

lets not go to extremes to try and prove this is nonesense or the government is trying to get more money because, as said before, nothing here has really changed and as a driver its your responsibility to other road users and pedestrians to drive safely... end of story.

if you can do these activities and still drive with due care and attention you will have no issue with the police

As masseur said, it is only a example of something that could cause a distraction while driving. Just becuase you are smoking while driving doesnt mean that the police can fine you. They have to prove that it was making you drive without due care and attention.
