...p1 running a photoshopped picture of a browser- window you can't get in either opera mini or 8.65? (grrrr..)
Imo, very irritating - things that could've made that browser awesome - such as an actual full- screen view (cropping away the side- bars to increase the useful view- window.. an UIQ design thing.. or at least making the bars actually transparent on top of the view- window components). And then using the overview zoom for orientation - instant success, and good press for literally crashing the competition away, and actually providing a full browser experience, like they insist they are.
But no, we're getting crap from SE, nothing from UIQ, and Opera soft. appears to have effectively ended their support- agreement with SE as far as current units are concerned, at least when it comes to functions, and not technical program faults (that cause critical hangs. Just incredibly irritating bugs isn't a problem).
Of course, I don't know that, since all I get from SE is "we cannot comment on future upgrades - but please, do let me answer with condescending crap about your insignificant concerns regarding your incredibly expensive purchase"..

it would be a very bad idea (and taste) to have a photoshopped version of their browser on their website...
if they did that, then I am dropping this shit and start waiting for the Android

Erm... they're advertising the concept of a mobile phone browser (Opera) with a superimposed picture of a well known website on the phone's screen - hardly the first time that's happened. There's no suggestion that it's Opera 9, or indeed any recognisable version of Opera at all, it's just a picture of the BBC news site.

And for S60 Opera Mobile 8.65 supports Flash Lite 2.1!!!

Because it uses a plugin to access the same framework as the internal flash- viewer. I.e, s60 provides an api for playing flash- content, and the plugin extends it. No such thing on UIQ yet.

But it is listed in the P990 white paper along with animated wallpaper.
So as far as I am concerned, SE has still not delivered the product it advertised. Grounds for a full refund ?

Theres a lot of ambiguity here.
Primarily, people have been buzzing around the idea of Opera 8.65 shipping on P1 and W960 devices, when really, a simple look on the Opera website will tell you that 8.65 is not available for UIQ, not yet, anyway.
Second, I hope the P5i will be fully supported by Opera 9 as some people have implied. However, so far, I have found no clear or reliable confimations of this from anyone. Though I am almost certain that when SE release thier first handset with the WM OS next year Opera 9 will most likely be bundled.
Thirdly, I dont think providing no updates (assuming they are not restricted by hardware) is a good business move at all. As a business, these companies are supported by their customers, who must therefore be kept happy. If a customer is able to upgrade and sees visible changes with new firmware and updates which are actually useful, sure it will prolong the lifespan of their current handset but it will also be a pretty convincing reason to stay with the current company when they do decide to get a new mobile. They dont want to feel neglected after having paid so much money for a phone. So I think, a handset should be limited by its hardware capabilities, but not by its software. If a certain item of software could run on an old handset, why not let it? Customers wont always just get the latest phone because its shiny. Watch them catch on to these underlying issues more and more, their opinions being guided by experiences and encounters with previous handsets.

@Tigershark42
Well i for one will be amazed if SE's WM devices ship with Opera of any variant as the OS includes Pocket Internet Explorer and i seriously doubt it will be removed just for SE.
The rest of what you say i mostly agree with it is indeed foolish to not make available software upgrades as and when they are available as of course this makes your customers happy users. Certainly not everyone having bought an expensive flagship product can either afford or wants to upgrade to a newer device every Year and really why should they have to. Some of us may want or need all the latest advances in tech and speeds but not everyone does and manufacturers really should support both their products as best as they can.

Hi all
Does anyone know if Opera 9 will have Flash Lite 3.0 or not as the latest firmware just released for the N95 8gb now has Flash Lite 3.0 incorporated in the browser. So both YouTube and any other web sites that use Flash can be viewed directly from the S60 browser, they have also addded Widgets to the fimware as well.
It also raises the question if Nokia are able to implement what must be considered a major upgrade of the browser in an already released devcie why are SE either not willing or able to do so for their UIQ Smart phones.
