No it's not that.

Downloading just headers is fine if you receive a lot of spam, otherwise its wiser to download the whole messages -- and that's what I do, and it's fast opening e-mails.

I had a similar problem on my Nokia 6630 - the battery lasted only 12h without doing anything and making any calls. Eventually, I found our that the problem lied in the theme I was using. Until now, when I read findinglost's post, I have realized what was and is the REAL problem. The themes, apparently, are installed on removable card, or, if they aren't, then at lest some of the files are located there and thus, we have always running memory card, that drains power like space shuttle.
So the simplest sallution - remove themes or make sure, they are located on the phones internal memory.

As for the switchings - it is also plausible, but very unlikely. A new phone won't be able to drain all of it's power in 12h when searching for new networks.
