Maybe a few deaths but I'd expect only the few people who might happen to be near the breached section of the chamber. I'm only guessing. I think it's pretty much failsafe. If anything starts to break I think the whole thing would just shutdown.

Sounds like all they were doing today was checking that it works. They aren't colliding anything today I think.

they reckon they will have significant data within the first couple of months. I presume that means they'll start to pin down the higgs-boson particle (if it exists) and observe antimatter.
