P1 is a great phone, the keyboard is amazing, the camera is also very good. There are some problems though:

1. No WiFig
2. Not 3G (why all P-series phones are not 3G I have no idea)

The P1 does have 3G

i think he means HSDPA

On the subject of missing apps - something along the lines of 'Magic Profiles' would fill a gaping chasm in the P1's functionality, also related to this would be a macro recorder (though we do now have 'bunch launch' of course, but this is more the equivalent of a .bat file rather than a true macro). Oh yes, and a derestriction of auto start wouldn't go amiss either

Good Morning everybody!

I recommend it after using it for more than 6 months.

I had the p1i but really didnt find it to be up to my standards.

My unit had very poor build quality. It is very plasticky as well which makes it feel cheap IMO.

The platform does not have that many 3rd party apps. The camera is not good, and is missing a few things (its been mentioned in other posts but things like 3g, atleast edge? wifig? etc...)

It does have its redeeming qualities though, like the keypad and the touch screen (although thats more of a novelty then anything)

well...the camera is not on par with say n95 camera, but its a good camera...maybe you just don´t know how to take photos???

build quality...the phone is made with metal + rubber...better than the vast majority of phones on the market...its actually one of its strong points....but maybe you had a faulty unit

3rd party apps...there is a good number of high quality apps...not huge numbers though...that should change with UIQ massifications expected for this year (we hope)

A big part of the phone is a mixture of glossy (keyboard and display frame) and painted plastic (main frame surrounding the phone and housing).

Yes, there is a metal front plate and rubber back cover and keyboard and the phone feels actually good when you hold it in the palm of your hand.

But the power and capture button have the worst quality of paint I have ever seen.
Mine started flaking off just two months after a very very careful usage and care.

Believe it or not, this together with the squeaking battery cover were the main reasons why I sold mine off.

I just hate and can't stand cheap (squeaking and flaking) material, especially on a phone and even if it is only a very small part of it.

SE build quality rocks ?

Yes, once it did, but imo no longer does (still better than on most of Nokia phones though).

a really strange thing happened yesterday. and trust me i'm not making this up. i went to a reputed mobile store to inquire about nokia n95 - 8 gb.
the price is about inr 28k. so i asked him if there was some buy back scheme available. he asked me which phone i currently own. i said SE w200 and P1i (have no intention of getting rid of it but just told him).
he said "do me a favor and don't sell your P1i. it's such a great phone! forget n95 and stay with P1i". now he is a mobile store owner. he could have easily told me the shortcomings of P1i and could have convinced me to get a n95. but he didn't. may be it's not "the" perfect phone ever but it's pretty much there i just love it.
p.s - the default headphones suck. get a good pair of headphones and just notice the difference! this is an awesome music phone too! haven't touched my ipod since i got this.

@rawheat

Well, you can always put something in a relation with another thing and say it's worse, equal or better.

In the comparison of P1i vs. N95 I fully agree with your salesman. I already mentioned that it is still better than most of the Nokia toys, err, phones, and N95 is one of them.

Earphones ?

One word, Sennheiser CX-300.

Bass output + clarity + detail + isolation are all awesome.

Funny thing regarding the post about the store salesperson.

A friend of mine bought an N95 about the time i bought my P1 so about 7 months ago. Anyways we were talking and he said to me that the N95 for all its bells and whistles didn't cut it for him. He said that the main reason he bought it was the camera which he further went on to add is nowhere near as good as his k800 becuase of the lag between pressing the button and taking the picture.

We did a few tests and the P1 seemed to focus a lot quicker and take a picture a lot quicker than the N95. I think if my friend was using the N95 as more than just a camera phone he wouldn't be too fussed, but since he moved from the k800 to the N95 simply because of the camera he seems to have regretted the decision.
