so... all of us with w890's are meeting all of you lot with w760's behind the bus station for a good ol' bout of fisticuffs?
Anyone got any other thoughts on replacing the housing on mobile phones?
Yes, don't do it.
I have changed the housing on many phones over the years, only because people have asked me to do it for them. I would never do it to my own phone because it really is a can of worms.
You will never get OEM quality from anywhere, be it ebay (which tend to be the worst) or even CNN. They are all cheap, 3rd party copies of the originals, and are made from inferior plastics and metals. Some are much better than others, but even the best are nothing compared to the originals.
The fit won't be as good. The paint will chip off in a couple of weeks. They will be more prone to cracking and creaking.
There is also the chance of you damaging the phone while changing the case. There are many small and very delicate parts in handsets and if you break them, it can be a nightmare to fix again.
Trust me, get the phone in the colour you want from the start. It's not worth the heartache.

but one problem; the dedicated camera button on the side of the phone is a bit iffy... if i press it quickly, the camera does not come on... i need to press it firmly down for 2-3 seconds or so
does anyone else have this problem? is it a fault in my phone? it appears the button only works roughly 1 in every 4 presses or so

OK - I've read every post and I've owned both the w890 and currently own the w760 (not rich, but in the business and swap SE phones regularly).
Getting back to post #1, if you are clumbsy and drop your phone a lot, I would go with the w760, since it is a bit bigger and easier to handle. When you drop it, it will probably fair better than the 890. I dropped my 890 on the ground and broke the flimsy plastic clip that holds the battery cover. There was a ding on the corner and the battery cover never closed correctly after that.
I also bent the 890 by sitting on it accidentally. It took a licking and kept working, but it was slightly bent - like my wallet.
The 760 is a good, solid phone with the newer standard UI. I like the locking mechanism when you close the slider (instead of having to hit *, unlock every time you take it out of your pocket.
BIG DOWNER 760: until you figure out how to upgrade the firmware, you will suffer with MP3 skipping or drop out. After the FW upgrade you will smile again.
BIG UPPER: The 760 comes with MANY games. Guitar hero, space invaders, GREAT STUFF. The 890 didnt even have quadrapop!
The 760 has bigger buttons and is easier to text with.
the 760 actually has better sex appeal (or a better conversation piece) than the stainless 890 - because the stainless 890 looks like a standard, boring candybar. the 760 racing stripe has gained many a comment and it parlays right into the 3.2MPix and sexy yellow metal. I haven't bagged any babes like the w880 days, but you never know.
Anyway, both phones are cool. There is no real functional difference that I've noticed.
If I had to pick a phone today, I would pick the W760. If I had a few months to wait, I would wait for the Q408 or Q109 models to come out, as th 890 is old news already and there may be a better or cooler model. You may be stuck with Q108 hardware.
Anyway - best of luck!

The biggest drawback for W890 is that it just doesnt look like a high end phone, more like a low-mid end one. You gotta atleast make your moneys worth

If it's OK with McFly, I'm going back to the w890 for a while.
I just got a new "chocolate" colored version. Right away the UI seems easier, quicker and less clumsy.
It's smaller, thinner and less of a lump in your pocket. McFly knows all about these.
It works great with a 16GB M2 - no issue there.
I'll give a Bluetooth update after tomorrow's morning run.
Cheers
