UIQ is dead because the user end of it was non existent, not the developer. SO i think what the user thinks is more important. I used UIQ for 2 months and IMO coming from 2 years of S60 i think UIQ was garbage.

User end was non existent because very few application developers dedicated time to write programs for UIQ3, due to some strange restrictions by patent holders. Inevitably, any platform that does not have the support of developers will loose its end users and eventually fail.
The case is just the opposite for UIQ/UIQ3 users, switching over to S60 is like getting off a horse and getting on a donkey
If you want good synchronizing/backup/restore and proper function of available features, then iPhone is the phone for you. But as a tech savvy end user, I would never use an iPhone as my primary device, I find it too restrictive with a lot of crucial features missing.
Currently I use an HTC Touch HD, its WM 6.1 and I'm quite happy with it. Had UIQ3 not been put to rest, I would have stuck with it, still have and use my P1 and P990. In a perfect world, a new device based on P990 would have come to market, with faster processor and more memory but we do not live in a perfect world.
