Its quite odd,..when I bought the P800,..I had no problem with sync.
Then after a while, it started not to work,..and have not worked since then. (the phone have been upgraded in the meantime).

All the time Mcafee antivirus was/is running,..so I dont think thats the problem. Then that would have been a problem, right from the beginning,..and it wasnt.

PC-Suite,..hmmm,..it worked before,..why would it suddenly not work now ? I've been using the one on the cd-rom,..worked fine before.
I made no changes at all.

USB-ports,..that could be the problem,..I'm running XP Pro, and occasionally my 2nd USB-port screws up,..meaning I cant use my memory-stick-reader,..at least not when it has an extension-cable on, but plugging it directly into the USB,..no problem.
Same thing when using a Sandisk Cruzer/flash memory.

And the Windows Startup - loading progs/applications differently every time,..this I believe too could be the cause of it.

The other SE programs (Picture editor, Backup etc) works fine...so why shouldnt PC-suite sync work as well ?

Also using Office XP,..no problems with that before neither.

I think the problems are the USB and maybe the startup in windows.

Regards

Jan

Found out that downline USB hubs do cause a problem with synchronisation in XP.

My Notebook without the docking station works fine now...

some times mine doesnot connect and one day i holded down ctrl alt + delete and closed everything exsept Explorer and then opend the sync software and it connected fine! i think it may of been that the usb port was also being used for printer so the computer may of been looking for that and thats why it wouldnt connect (mines fine now i simply close a programe called: service layer and it connects fine)

just been to sony service centre. told them my sync problems which are-
unable to detect phone at all.
however am able to detect and move files using bluespace(bluetooth).
and when my usb cable is plugged in and my phone is put on cradle pc makes detection alert but shows no signs of doing so.
the guy there said something about turning off virus software. he claims to have had the same problems and this fixed it.
have no idea how to do this but will give it a go.........................................................................................................................RESULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
it works!
disable virus detection. i use norton. take detection level down to minimum or exit alltogether.

Well done Sony, lets hope no one malicious gets hold of the email addresses or hostnames of all the people on this forum as they will all have Virus protection turned off/set to a minimum.

This is appalling talk about drop your internet trousers and wait to get screwed.

Looks like I will be disabling my ADSL while synchronising

First remove the PC suite program from your pc.Then start creating a new dialup connection manually, under modem option click in "dont detect my modem I will select it from a list"next click Have disk then insert the PC Suite choose D: let the cdrom run ignore SE logo, close it,and it will display all three modems of the PC suite then, choose Serial modem and install.Be sure to have your cradle only*(not phone attached)plugged in the usb port you want.so you can then see the com appeared(ex.com4).Next name the connection(ex.Cable) then your dialup number is *99***2#,next your username(same as for your wap connection, prvided from your network)and passwort.create shortcut yes,and you are ready. Thats how I did pull it off.The PCSuite can always be reinstalled with the same way in another usb,not the same(with craddle only, not phone)Hope to have been helpful.Good luck, mates.
