What wrath000 was saying was that a Li-ion battery (maybe polymer too) should not get discharged too deep (below 25%) because that will kill the battery (a disadvantage of Li-ion batteries).
Because of this disadvantage, manufactures put in a safety switch that will turn off the phone (after battery low warning) before the battery actually reach that level. Therefore, in my opinion, it is harmless to play a little before the first battery charge, provided that the low bat warning does not come on.
