Interesting, and good to know you're getting somewhere.

I'm sure Orange shouldn't blacklist the phone if the contract is simply cancelled - that's not the purpose of the blacklist.

When you buy the phone it's yours. The contract is a separate matter. (If in doubt, see Orange's terms). They should not blacklist it if it's not been reported stolen.

Phoned Orange and they said that for £20 they can unlock the phone so that it work on all networks. At the moment they said its tied to the orange network and thats why when im trying to use it on vodafone I cant get thru.

Im not sure what this is. The handset is unlocked already. I'm assuming there must also be some kind of network lock they can put on the system so that only certain IMEI's can operate on certain netwoks. But surely if this was the case, all phone companies would just do this with all their phones to stop ppl using the phone they gave u on a different network!???

Does this make sense to anyone. If i do fork out the £20 do u think this will actually work?

Going to try an O2 SIM in my phone in a bit (have to w8 4 my girlfriend to get here first). Will let u kno if that works or not. Ive already tried a different vodafone SIM. That doesnt work either.

You can check the locks yourself - up * down down * down *, then go to the SIM locks menu.

If everything is unlocked, then paying Orange £20 to unlock it won't make any difference.

I dont really know for sure. But if it was blacklisted then unlisted maybe it takes some time for it to be unlisted on the other networks??

Maybe ring the other network and ask them why it wont work. That way if they say its blacklisted tell them the situation and that it has been unlisted and ask how long will it take for the changes to hit there database.

I am only guessing but it could be your answer!

A phone with an operator lock won't accept any other sims than from the company it's locked to. At least that's how it works here in Norway.

If you can get your phone to boot with your Voda sim, they can see it tries to log on to the netw. and stuff, it seems there might be something else...

Just tried the O2 SIM and that works fine! What the F*CK is it with vodafone?!! I'm gonna fone them tomoro n say look, I cant make / rcv any calls - Either fix it now or I stop the payment! It seems as tho its their fault now. Orange SIMs work, O2 SIMs work (I havent tried but i imaging T-mobile SIMs will work also) - just any vodafone SIM wont work! The fone isnt blacklisted and Im still payin money for the contract! It's Pi$$in me right off now!

When I fone VF they just say that the fone 'should' be working. The guy i spoke to even said "well I'm baffled" by this situation. They speak to me like as if its my fault - like IM doing something wrong! They then ask their supervisor, who then just says to try calling orange!! No one ever actually FIXES the problem, they just pass u off blaming a different company!

Anyone else had this trouble in the past?

Yes most companies in any field act similarly. They usually always pass the buck or show their ignorance of the problem by passing you to someone else. Occasionally you do get someone who does actually help, I had terrible problems getting my P800 to work on Orange initially, it took four of them six days to do absolutely bugger all. I tried one last time and struck gold I got through to a chap who managed to fix the problem within 30 seconds!

@ bossjohnc
That up, down* blah blah thing, that never seems to work for me, would you mind terribley explaining it again in excruciating detail for slapheads like myself

@Scots, sure!

If you're not wearing your flip (although it looks as though you are) close the virtual flip.

Carefully notch the jog dial up one place, then press star etc etc.

You must be careful, as if you scroll the jog dial more than one notch it won't work.

HTH!

OK... now I'm confused!!!!

I just spent another hour on the phone with vodafone trying to solve this problem. In the end the guy starts getting ratty with me so I decided f*ck it I'll end the contract.

So I phone up Singlepoint and end the contract (by paying off the last month as i only had one month to go). All that was done and dusted, I put the phone down and started looking on the net to start a new contract.... then guess what happens....
SOMEONE CALLS ME!

Within 5 minutes of me swapping my contract to a lower monthly payment ready for it to end... Vodafone starts to work again in my P800 (calling out and in)!! How wierd is this?!!

So i was thinking, perhaps the block was applied to that specific contract. But then again how did my SIM work in other phones AND other VF SIMs not work in my phone.

I am really confused now!! Its too late coz Ive already ended the contract.

BTW - any reccomendations about which network / tariff to try? Ive been looking at the Three operator. Please post replies to this in the new topic Ive started - "How is the Three network with the P800?".
