Its to do with the fact that your buying the phone & agreeing to connect it & use it on Orange, i was always advised by CPW staff to do this, if you successfully make a call it confirms without doubt that the phone has been connected to your network, & your living up to your agreement.

Just to let you all know, I got a free P900 from CPW last Tuesday on Your Plan 1000 (£95/moth), then downgraded to the high speed data tariff (£10/month) on Wednesday no problems. Nowhere in the contract or in any of the documents or CPW welcome pack does it say I need to keep the same tariff for 3 months. The salesperson told me to stay on YP1000 for 3 months but when I asked him to show me the term in the contract he couldnt and he himself got a little confused, heh. Therefore CPW cant touch me with any clawback and if they do I am ready for them, muhahaha. So basically I got my P900 for £205 = 95 + (11x10).

The Link also dont clawback their customers but they are selling it for £49.99 on YP700 (£70/month) = (49+70)+(11x10) = £239.

I dont know about anywhere else but most places in Birmingham have now sold out of P900s and wont be getting any for at least 2 weeks according to most shops, so if you want a cheap P900 you better go and find one quick before these shops realize what is happening and start implementing some clawback clauses.

I've had a chat with the friendly people at the Carphone Warehouse who initially gave me the "you'll have to stay on the talk plan for 6 months" spiel, until I asked to see their contract whereupon they admitted there was no obligation on there side of the contract. I then visited my local Orange shop who informed me that you have to stay on a talk plan for 4 months. Again, I asked to look at contracts and found out that there was no actual stipulation for a minimum talk plan period (as long as it's >= 1 month). I was then informed that if I did change contract in less than 4 months I would be subject to a surcharge to cover the cost of the phone, a measure to prevent this sort of skullduggery. I've had a quick look at the Orange contract which says nothing specific about this surcharge, but I'm not sure if the issue will be covered by one of the vague leagl scribblings hidden within...

Many posts suggest Clawback is not possible on behalf of orange contracts with CPW / The Link / Orange shop.

Also dont downgrade to HSD why not downgrade to OVP Virgin? is this possible?

Come on people, did anyone seriously think the CPW would give away the P900 free as easily as all that?

Ok, we've gone round and round in circles re this clawback, downgrading and everything else. But, let's say you do buy a p900 from CPW on Orange, have Orange branded the phone, by sticking horrible orange boxes all over it, like vodafone have a habit of doing ?

@n.evil, yes Doctor Evil, they have branded the phone, also the reason we keep going round in circles over the cheap P900 deal is because some people limit themselves to what they think is reasonable, others keep pushing,
So even when a fantasicly cheap way of getting a phone is shown, a large number of people will NOT do it, they are held back by their conscience, this is why CPW in the LONG RUN won't be out of pocket, as most buyers will be paying;
The full price,
Some, MORE than the full price,
Others, LESS than the full price.

It's important to remember that the average customer wants an airtime contract that gives them some free minutes rather than just going for the cheapest tariff.
