well i mean why would sony even have a pro version if the normal one allows bigger memory?
the memory stick (or duo) technology just isn't build for 128+ memory.....

so no just back up him, ther's never ever going to be a ms duo larger than 128 mb,

Ok totaly understand the memory stick is maxed at 128 and thats not gonna change...

And the Pro's dont work at the moment...

But would it be possible for our P900 to some how read the pro sticks ?

would they fit ?

and could they some how be read ?

I know uve said they cant be read, but no ones explained why...

Sorry if im being a total dumb ass and sorry if uve already explained this

@goldfinger

It must be a hardware thing. It can't be a software thing as sony ericsson would have released a patch to sell a billion trillion pro sticks and to make sony rich(er).

The difference between a ms and an ms pro is the same as the difference between a compact flash and a mutimedia card. they may sound the same but its like putting a cd in a floppy drive. not gonna work.

@Meatmc-

I think that was a horrible analogy because your premise for using it is simply incorrect. The expansion past the 128 DUO technology is not barred because of hardware limitations. I've consulted with a couple engineers from SE that can atest to that. It's also not that easy to just simply convert it to the DUO PRO format either. But more importantly it is not entirely impossible.

To address your second point on why SE would have done this because of the lucrative potentials, analyze it this way. With the current distribution of 512mb + DUO PROs SE would not necessarily gain more money if they convert their Pxxx to the PRO format. One manner of reasoning would be because Pxxx customers would naturally simply abandon the DUO format and move on to the DUO PRO format. These DUO PRO sticks are cheap. I have personally purchased 22 128mb DUOs from the summer of 2003 until now. That's because I got them for really good prices. With that said, the 512mb DUO PROs in my opinion are also cheap. I can get 1 512mb DUO PRO for the price of only 3 128mb Duos and I'd still be getting more memory for my buck. Which means I would no longer have the need to buy a 16,32,64,or 128mb DUO. I'm guessing several other members would probably want a minimum of 256mb which would mean they would be buying from the DUO PRO class. Several devices right now are being built to utilize the DUO PRO format.

If you look at the devices that are converting to this format it is not any SE product. Sony is converting all it's former regular memory stick products to the PRO class, but SE is not. Remember SE and Sony are not technically the same company. So the business profits that Sony may benefit from if they can sell the DUO PRO sticks to SE customers does not necessarily mean SE will be reaking in the profits as well. Also keep in mind that only a division of Sony has merged with Ericsson. Moreover, SE has its own market share and generate its own revenue. All profits do not go into one big pot in which Sony and SE share harmoniously. Thus, all that being said what does SE really have to gain in this conversion? I personally think it all depends on the contract that these 2 companies have going between one another.

I say again: the Memory Stick (and consequently Memory Stick Duo) cannot go past 128MB. This is an absolute limitation of the hardware design. The only way to get more than 128MB into a single Memory Stick card is to use that sleazy selector switch trick.

Memory Stick Pro can theoretically go up to 32GB. It'll be a little while before we hit that.

So correct me if I'm wrong, but are you saying that MS DUO will never have more capacity than 128Mb?

@peregrinum you still have failed to backup your bold statements with any conclusive proof. Are you prepared to bet your gaff on what you claim?

the file system used in the standard (duo and pro) is not capable of addressing more than 128mb, that is why they will never go past 128 mb. to those of you who keep saying , maybe it will happen int he future etc etc, the future is now, they have updated it so that it can adress more than 128 mb and the update is called ms PRO!!!!

with reference to the blue sticks, they are up to 4x faster than ordinary sticks and will be replacing ordinary sticks throughout the channel
