agreed. you can't really compare and say "this one is better". there is no doubt that the xbox is technically superior, but consoles live or die based on the content available. if you think one console or the other has more great games, that's the one for you (unless you can't stand the controller). with fewer and fewer exclusive titles the divide lessens, so new console gamers will either pick what they think is a superior platform or they'll just pick what their friends have. of course, with console prices falling like rocks under gravity it's a lot easier to own two consoles than a pc with a souped-up graphics card. i think xbox's ever expanding market share is due in part to the "second console" market, but probably also to the superior online implementation.

I personally think the console war is all a bit pointless now. there are very few exclusives for any consoles now, with many things lik Timesplitters, Burnout and Tony Hawks going multiformat. However, i think in terms of exclusive games the Gamecube has the advantage, overall, thanks to it's brilliant first party support. Ps2 is second, and xbox last, as xbox has too many games that are on pc as well. As far as i'm concerned, the Xbox basically IS a pc, and most xbox games can be got on pc: DX:IW and KOTOR are to big name examples. And since everyone here has a pc, that surely makes it redundant? IMO ps2 is the best, but i think all of them have some fun games, and Xbox certainly has better graphics.

GC only has a real advantage for the under-18s, based on the content of those exclusives, and falls on its arse based on hardware. that's not to say there aren't a few GC games i would like (resident evil, star wars games).
the ease of porting between xbox and pc is IMHO one of it's advantages. firstly, there will be a wider range of titles - and hence good games - available, some of which are better suited to console than pc (especially wrt multiplayer aspects). secondly, not everyone can afford a pc with the souped-up graphics ability required for some of those games. as i have stated innumerable times, on hardware cost alone the xbox is a more economic option compared with having to upgrade your computer's graphics capability so you keep playing the latest games as they become more resource-intensive on pc. in australia i can either buy an AUD $2500 pc capable of playing KOTOR and HALO 2, or an AUD $250 Xbox for the same purpose. other than gaming, my current pc is capable of any conceivable use i might have for it. why would i waste my money, when i could use the price difference for another 22-23 games (or anything else for that matter)? even if i ONLY bought a new graphics card, that would still be around twice the price of an xbox for anything decent.
