my friend had his gprs activated last week by just giving his mobile number to the smart cs operator. his number is prepaid and he has been using it for 2 years now so that means pwede gprs sa prepaid. same thing happened to my other friend who got his gprs activated yesterday and he uses prepaid talk n text.

technically, there is no reason why prepaid users can't use gprs. it just a matter of "flicking a switch" on the operator's side.
but, a customer service representative alone *cannot* activate gprs. it needs to be registered into the system, in fact you need a form to confirm your desire to have this service activated to document your request. smart is strict on this matter.
it could be an OTA bug, with which the activation is automatic. so when the system receives the SET GPRS command from 211, it does not check whether the number is prepaid or postpaid (just a hunch, not a statement).
nevertheless, to those who have it, just enjoy it.
