Blackberry is a "push" technology. Which simply means that when an email is sent to you it is automatically "pushed" or pops up on your phone. There is no need to prompt or download the email at all. So it will appear as instant messaging to you. Think of it like an IM version of email. The info pops up on your screen instantly without you having to do anything and you read the message. This is all done after your Blackberry phone/unit has been configured. You can set it up to allow all your existing email accounts to behave in that manner.

Wow!. Thanks Big Feat, really good explanation. I wanted just that. So, even though there are Blackberry handhelds around, this is more of a standard / protocol.

Does the P900 support BlackBerry?. I think it does not.

the p900 and p910 are _supposed_ to work as Blackberry clients, but different people here have had different levels of success getting it to work.

Thinking of it as a protocol isn't a bad way to go about. RIM makes handsets that can interface with its "Blackberry Enterprise Servers," which is in turn a computer running RIM software that takes MS Exchange or Domino email from an Exchange or Domino server and sends it to a GSM service provider, which sends it out securely over GPRS to handsets that have the necessary software to receive the mail. It's a secure wireless email system for companies that don't want their email going out over the airwaves "naked."

It is not available yet, and from what I am reading around other forums, it is said that there is no ETA for it yet.

Blackberry.net still show that there will be Blackberry Connect Software for the P910 (although they do not say when), so all hope is not lost (yet).

Just hope that SE do not release a P1000 first, because then they probably will forget about you.

Chatted with my buisness account manager at Vodafone today and he doesnt understand why they havent issued the blackberry connect software. he said he will check is he has it available for me to download or he will send me it. He did say it would be a .sis file for installation and he would ask one of his techies to farward ir to him.

Im not holding my breath on this one as i think i have a novice manager here, i did explain the WHOLE se/rim scenario to him.

well i will wait and see . . . .

I have to say I think it's absolutley astonishing that it hasn't been released. It was one of the big selling points of this handset and surely one of the main purposes behind the keypad. Very disappointed.
Keep us updated mate.
