I have both phones and have to admit that the E398 has a better camera and has an impressive feature set but in actual use its not that great. Mp3 ringtones/ Java apps/ and photos for contacts all have to be on the phone memory to work (only 4mb). The phonebook is not well thought out, you cant choose to hide sim phone numbers, you cant see the phone number when selecting a number to send SMS to. It wouldn't sync properly with outlook. It can play video but not record, BT connectivity is basic. etc.
Even in comparison to a phones in its class (K700, N6230) it may not come out on top.
The P900 isnt perfect but its good at what it does. As for the price, well if its too expensive then no-one would have bought it.

As for the phone book bugs, P900 is not that good either, check out

But I do agree that the E398 might not be that refined, but hey, it has all the fancy stuff at a very affordable price you see.

do you know why i think motorola is cheaper? 2 words..REVERSE ENGINEERING while SE spends loads of cash on research and development what motorola has to do is buy a SE and break it down identify the components and rebuild it. Its unethical but hey everybody does it from cars to television its the cheapest way to acquire technology without spending. and by the way the motorola fone is not the same class at the P900 i had the motorola fone on my hand a while ago and yeah it was nice butit was way way different compared to my P900 yeah the price is cheap but do you know how much a large touch screen prices against a small non touch screen? and do you know how much each company shells out for each fone model's R&D? if you have the figures then you dont have to ask why the price is so.

Hmm, strange. But somehow I dont agree completely. All tech used in the P900 was there from quite some time, only someone had to get it together. And for Motorola to steal the technology, it had to be on Symbian. But thats not true, Motorola is on Linux big way. And I believe thats a bigger challenge then just building upon an already tested platform as the Symbian.

@methelayted-spirit
yes, sbj said that the p800 included all of these things i.e. the mp3 player but the moto was priced cheaper - that is the comparison!!!

I think one also has to look at the software support for various phones. How much third party software is available for the Motorola Linux phone. My guess would be none. The P900 has a huge selection of software available, a lot of it really useful. When investing in an expensive smartphone, I would also want to look at what software options I'll have after the purchase. Apart from that, I agree with the others. You're trying to compare a regular phone with a good camera to a Phone+PDA with extensive software support and a highly customizable OS. No offense, but It just sounds silly.

Thats a good point. I had a Motorola Accompli 009 and it was pretty cool for about a week then, "Gee, thats all it can do?"
As for the original point of this post, I do unserstand what you are getting at. Maybe it was just a poor choice of comparison phones.
If you compared the P900 to an SX1 or Nokia series 60 phone maybe that would highlight the SE pricing premium nore since its the same technology sans the touch screen.
But when you use the Moto as comparison it comes off like "Hey a Honda Civic does the same thing as a BMW why pay so much more?"

@ empty - I used to drive and own a Honda Civic, what are trying to say? Hmmm
Agreed, the P-series, especially the P9xx are not cheap, but I think they are worth every pound/dollar!

Mr sjbj.... or whatever... does this Moto has apps like WorldMate, comphrensive English dictionary.. to name a few !
I will agree, you are comparing a toyota with a Merc !
Yes both have tyres, both have stearing, seats, piston, gas tank....
and prices are different too !!
Dont be stupid to compare the defaults of P900 with this Moto brand.
Do you have any idea what add itionals you can do with P900 ??
Probably that justifies the pricetag it contains.
And I am sure you are not using any of those addon apps and hence making such a silly comparission.
